The road from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya is full of turns, deceptively long and passes some of the largest tea plantations in the world. Truth be told, driving anywhere in the hill country of Sri Lanka is an exercise in patience given that even short distances can take hours due to slow moving traffic, poor weather or less than desirable roads. The Royal Botanical Gardens were a great place to visit large spaces for a picnic and beautiful trees and shrubs. The avenues of palm trees are spectacular and the fernery such a lovely, shady place to escape the heat. Our favourite part by far are the trees the fruit bats call home; listen, and look up – you'll ear them chattering, and see them hanging upside down with their furry bodies turned to the sun, every so often you'll see one or two stretch their wings, or even fly from one roost to another. These bats, unlike most bats, fly by sight not radar – something I didn't know until I visited this most beautiful park. #localsecrets

It is always amazing to beat the path and walk along the unknown road which leads to local gems. I was wandering around Hatton region near my home and walked along the tea plantations without having any idea where I'm going. Finally, I ended up here with a breath-taking view of the Castlereagh Reservoir. Don't be afraid to beat the path. #LoveMyTown

A photo taken while I was traveling to Badulla in the upcountry railway line. This is the most scenic railway line in Sri Lanka and it's highly recommended. You will find this one in a life lite experience. It is totally 8 hour ride if my memory is good.
