Our four bedroom cottage is located in Waynesboro, VA at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway meet here, so it's a perfect place for your family to meet too! We are adjacent to the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest and the Sherando Lake Recreation Area, and only fourteen miles from the skiing, golfing and tennis at Wintergreen Resort. Yet we are yet so easy to get to -- tucked in the crossroads of Interstates 81 and 64, only five miles from exit 96 on Interstate 64\. We are only 27 miles from the University of Virginia and Monticello in Charlottesville, VA and only 150 miles from Washington, DC. Oak Tree Cottage sits in the edge of the forest, overlooking the open fields of our 1,000-acre farm and the Blue Ridge mountains. We have hiking trails, wildlife and bird watching galore, and restored meadows. In early September, monarch butterflies migrate through the farm. Relax and enjoy nature or head out to explore nearby wineries, breweries, history, biking events, the Appalachian Trail or the arts. We are a great home base to explore Virginia! The first floor of the house has a living room, a full kitchen with island, a large dining table with seating for nine, a glass-walled room that provides a full view of the forest, as well as two bedrooms and a full bath. On the second floor, there are two more bedrooms and another full bath. The house has hot- water baseboard heat. We also have a private pool available for the use of our guests. There is no lifeguard on duty. Small weddings are allowed on property for an additional fee. We stayed from Friday to Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is close to 151, allowing us to swing by Devil's Backbone for their Oktoberfest. It is also close to many great trails like Humpback Rocks, which we hit in the morning after Devil's Backbone. The owners are amiable and welcoming. They greeted us when we settled in and set up the firepit for a lovely roaring fire our last night there. The views are beautiful, and the peace and quiet are unmatched. Multiple Long range views, one that looks towards a perfect Virginia foothill or mountain depending on your personal point of view. The pool is a good size and around 8 foot at it’s deepest. The house came with everything you could need in supplies and was very comfortable. We met both owners and they were very friendly and had great communication. Overall a perfect getaway retreat if you are visiting the Shenandoah region of Virginia and need a home base for your adventure. ##### anthony r. Jun 8, 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Time to stand and stare We had a marvellous 3 generational family vacation at oak tree cottage,the hosts were wonderful.the cottage nestled in a copse of glorious old oak trees,peace,quietand serenity,surrounde by nature,a time to unwind and unplug.you felt like you were in a treehouse,eating breakfast on deck or dinner in the screened sunroom.,watching the nuthatches scale the mighty oak,the cheeky squirrels perform acrobatics trying to get to the birdfeeder.the cottage had everything you could need and more.An amazing pool and sundeck,family games,puzzles and board games.Dont worry you wifi wizards it was good enough you could work from cottage remotely,but why would you.Nearby a plethora of things to do ,10 mins away Sherando lake great sandy beach ,swming area,walks,fishing,kayaking and picnic tables.grand hiking,kids museums,caverns and a very well run safari park all within an hour.very close to skyline drive,blue ridge parkway,staunton and charlottesville with bigger lake.All in all everything you could need for a n unforgettable vacation.Cannot wait to go back ##### Todd A. Everything we needed for a relaxing family vacation. A highlight was our hike at nearby St. Mary's Wilderness. No steep slopes, beautiful mountain stream and waterfall. The home is on 1,000 acres and feels very private since the owner's home is the only other house on the property. We were pleased with both the cleanliness of the home and the comfort of the bed. The owners, Karen and Dave, were very hospitable hosts who made sure that we had everything that we needed for a pleasant stay. We did hike a bit on the property and saw a lot of deer while walking.
