Nestled in the rainforest down a long stairway fringed with tyre palms and tree orchids, a newly remodeled 650 sqft Cottage sits enveloped by virgin St John flora and fauna. The main living areas and bedrooms are all tastefully appointed and fully air-conditioned. The efficiency kitchen is well-equipped. The large wraparound screen porch provides indoor/outdoor living with cozy seating and dining 'al fresco'. Welcome to the Verde Cottage - your peaceful island getaway on Bordeaux Mountain! The 2BR/1BA Cottage is a 20 minutes drive from Cruz Bay, located high atop Bordeaux Mountain. The Cottage is accessed by a long flight of stairs (67 steps in total) which is your gateway to peace and privacy. The Verde (‘Green’) Cottage is surrounded by lush tropical greenery, enveloping you in the sights & sounds of nature. There is a beautiful water view peeking through the valley as you look East toward the rising sun. Upon entry to the Cottage you will find a simple but efficient kitchen on your left and the main living area with a small seating area and 40” Samsung Smart TV on your right. The bathroom with a washer/dryer is straight ahead. Up a set of stairs is a cozy loft bedroom fully enclosed by railings with a private dressing area. The queen bed looks out on a bonus water view above the treetops of the valley. Note: This bedroom is not suitable/ideal for young children because of the steep and narrow loft stairs. The loft area, living room, kitchen and bathroom are in the main part of the home and are cooled by an air-conditioning unit located in the loft. Back downstairs, stepping out through French doors onto the screen porch you will have your choice of comfy lounge areas - both swinging and seating options! There is a lovely dining table with seating for 4 placed on the corner of the screen porch. The private Master bedroom is separately accessed from the screen porch. It is small but comfortable with a queen bed, dresser, comfortable mattress and soft linens. There are blackout shades and in-room air conditioning so you can sleep soundly for your next day of hiking, beaching and island adventures! The Verde Cottage is ideal for active travelers looking to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the simplicity of a cozy Cottage nestled in nature with all of the modern comforts. You will have full access to the Verde Cottage and private parking area during your stay. Situated high atop Bordeaux Mountain at 1100 feet elevation the Verde Cottage offers lush mountain views and a water view of the East End of St. John and the British Virgin Islands. The home is located in a very quiet residential area, on a safe and peaceful road with no pass-through traffic. You won't hear the sounds of roosters calling, trucks rumbling, or the bustle of town - just the peace and tranquility of your lush natural surroundings! Bordeaux Mountain is slightly cooler than the rest of the island (you may want a long-sleeved option for the evenings) and the home faces east to make the most of the tropical tradewinds. The Verde Cottage is located in close proximity to several V.I. National Park trailheads: Bordeaux Mountain Trail (3/4 mile away) Reef Bay Trail (1.5 mile) L'Esperance Trail (3 miles) The island is 70% protected by National Park and you will drive through a large section of it on your way to the home. Drive times: 20-minute drive to Cruz Bay 12-minute drive to Coral Bay 10-20-minute drive to the North Shore beaches (Maho Bay is 12 minutes away) A rental car is absolutely necessary to access the house, but 4WD is not essential (unless you want to explore the further reaches of St. John!). There is a large private parking area with space for 2 vehicles. It's hard to find a quieter, more relaxing accommodation on St. John. Surrounded by jungle without a neighbor or road in sight, the Verde Cottage offers peace and tranquility. The home is located 20 minutes from Cruz Bay, 12 min to Coral Bay and 10 min to the beautiful North Shore beaches. As previously mentioned, there is a long (long!) flight of stairs to access the Cottage, please be aware there are 67 steps! This is only a property suitable for fit / active travelers. Our cottage is nearly off-grid, featuring solar and Tesla Powerwalls for uninterrupted power (we ARE grid tied for those shady days). You will also enjoy fast and reliable internet as well. The Verde Cottage is the place to fully unwind and recharge in a natural setting. You’ll enjoy soaking in the sounds of the peeping coqui (tree frogs) by night and be soothed by the tropical Caribbean breezes by day. A moment in Nature with just the right creature comforts We had a lovely stay in St. John. The well appointed tree house had everything we needed. First the host was quite considerate and sharing all the information we would need to make the most of our stay. The house was quiet and really cool. Very eco friendly and glam put together. We loved the Myers and Trader Joe products after long days on the beach. The peppermint was refreshing. The beds were comfort and the kitchen had everything we needed. The pouch was a favorite as the views were so relaxing. This place is totally as advertised. Our son loved having his own space. It was just a good amount of space for a family of 3\. If you don’t get around well, I would not recommend. I was happy to get my steps in everyday getting to the car. Had to be a bit careful coming down from loft bedroom. Which was fine for us. This place is not for someone with mobility issues. The walk to and from the house was magical. With orchids strategically positioned on the trees along the way. The storage had everything we needed: Umbrella, chairs, snorkel gear and a cooler. All the ingredients for perfect beach days. I would come again. I recommend for a forest and beach vacation. After being on the beaches all day it was great to get away into the mountains. It had all we needed for our stay and days lounging on the beach. We slept to the sound of tree frogs. The cottage is literally in the heart of the rainforest with complete 360 degree privacy. The beds and couches were cozy, the enclosed porch was perfect for additional space, and the AC worked perfectly. We truly loved our stay and the property manager and owner were as kind as ever! ##### elisah m. It was everything we wanted and meticulously designed to be enjoyed by our entire family. The hanging swings on the screened porch became our daughters most favorite part of the trip. Cottage was well appointed with everything we needed and the property management did a great job checking in with us to make sure all was going well. We had a great time in St John at Verde Cottage! We were aware of the stairs to the cottage and that it was located in a tropical setting and could be prone to attracting critters (geckos, spiders, bugs, etc.). We did everything we could (ran AC, put all food in refrigerator, took trash out daily) but we still had these friends join us in the cottage. It didn’t spoil our stay, but if these bother you this is something to be aware of. ##### Douglas H. The property manager was amazing and addressed a window and water issue quickly and with great follow through via texts. I’d stay here again in the future. It was perfectly situated in the "trees", yet a beautiful view peeked through of the water! House was clean, had everything we needed and close enough to town if we needed anything but far enough to feel secluded! The bed was SO comfy (downstairs) . Nestled in the jungle, a ten minute drive to the nearest local watering hole, and only feet away from one of the Virgin Islands National Park trailhead, this is the place to stay! If you're looking for a place to sit back and relax and listen to tropical sounds, while you read, in a screened in porch... look no further! Water adventure minded? Only a 20 min. drive down well marked roads to the most beautiful beaches you will ever see. This place is a hidden gem! You will need to rent a car, but options might be limited, so definitely plan ahead. We stayed here four nights and loved everything about the Green Cottage! Our hostess was extremely helpful and made sure our stay was a positive experience; knowledgeable in all things local, provided informative and timely answers to all our queries.
