At this price point, Hotel Grand, in Samakov, is excellent value. The owner, Stanislav, was very helpful and gave us great service. The room was fine, the restaurant was fine, the bar was fine. There are 4 large supermarkets very near the hotel. We like supermarkets :) We had a great, comfortable stay. Thank you Stanislav and your team :)
Our maisonette was warm and cosy. It was lovely having the two balconies with views of the mountain.
The staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay.
The only niggle was the pillows! Very lumpy and uncomfortable!
I was a little bit disappointed that the hotel did not offer a personal touch to congratulate my husband on his 60th birthday. I had explained that that was the reason for our holiday and hoped they would do something a bit special, such as leaving a bottle of wine or a cake in the room, or even a birthday card, but nothing. Bit sad...
As a solo traveller i found the room fine. Good view , comfortable bed but small pillow(just 1 small pillow). Plenty warm enough, good size bathroom and plenty hot water. Service was good and staff welcoming. Bar was ok but didnt eat there so no comments. Walls a little thin and ppl flushing loo during silent hours or talking in the corridor at night annoying.
Would i stay again, yes as very cheap and close to bus stop and supermarkets.
There’s nothing Grand about it in the slightest. It isn't the cheapest hotel around yet you still have to pay 10bng to use the sauna each time. I have stayed in a lot of hotels in Bulgaria and this is the first I’ve heard of this. No kettle or hairdryer in the room, just a TV and drinking glasses. Extremely dated, the bed is not comfortable and you can feel the springs. The drains/water really smell disgusting and the shower curtain stank of cigarette smoke. The room was not at all soundproofed (it is really noisy). You can hear people in other rooms talking and even going to the toilet! Breakfast is not a buffet as stated in the description, it is an option of 4/5 small offerings. I ordered scrambled eggs as stated on the menu and this is literally all I got! My partner ordered the combination option which included one slice of tomato, stale cake with salami and cheese. In addition, check-in took ten times longer than it should as the guy didnt speak English. He had to make calls to someone else who worked there to translate. Fair enough until he kept on saying we owed 80bng for the room. I said I had paid (on Gtranslate), it was then written on paper for me. I reiterated I had paid and showed the invoice yet he then claimed I still needed to pay for breakfast which was included. Totally unprofessional. An apology was given for the language barrier in the morning but it is the demanding more money that I didn’t feel comfortable with. Not worth the money, get nicer and cheaper!
Had wanted to stay here, so we could visit Dosbie. Very pleasant staff. Nice outside space, as we were there in August. Samokov has changed a lot since we were last there and restaurants, etc., were either closed or appeared shut down altogether.
Toller Pool, sehr freundliches Personal, einfache aber ausreichende Zimmer

Liked: Cleanliness, room comfort
Disliked: Staff & service
Hotel was very clean. Weekend reception didn't speak English. Despite 26 deg, outdoor pool was empty beginning of June. A noisy youth team was also booked in, using most of the hotel.
