Fun atmosphere and at the same time quiet and relaxed. Very accommodating to dogs, which was appreciated. Paul was check-in, bartender and quesadilla cook that night. He was pleasant but it was difficult to serve the needs of everyone timely because he had no help. I’d advise to at least have two people onsite to provide better service.

Staff were very friendly and attentive and always willing to help. The room was a good size but a bit dated and worn— furniture could definitely use an upgrade. The cast iron bed frames were nice, but not attached properly so every time your pillow pushed against it or you rolled over it clanged against the wall and woke us up. The ac in the room was locked so it couldn’t be set any lower than 68. But it was much warmer than that in the room, and even a sheet was too warm to sleep under.

We enjoyed the BBQ on the Fourth, 5 and under were free which was great for a our picky toddler. They had some fun lawn games that she enjoyed playing with. Unfortunately, some other events that weekend were a bit underwhelming. We went swimming at the large pool Saturday morning, and purposely went early, near when it opened, to avoid the crowds. There were no towels available for a couple hours though, and a number of guests appeared to have "saved" lounge chairs or entire tables under the pavilion from the night before, but were not actually present yet. There were no staff members over seeing this though, so for those of us who woke up early to use the pool we were just out of luck using the umbrellas, lounge chairs, pavilion/tables, or we had to confront angry patrons who arrived later if we happened to use the "reserved" spaces. We did not see any signs that said there was reserved seating, and were told by staff that this was not allowed but then saw no one enforcing it. It made for a very unpleasant experience. There were some kid friendly events later in the day, but they were all outdoors on a VERY hot day with no shade provided. The coin hunt was literally just a number of gold coins thrown onto the grass. I was expecting maybe a scavenger hunt throughout the hotel, something more engaging for the kids. The pinata was fun, but again outside in hot sun. We did not stay for the limbo - too hot. It was not one of the better events at this hotel.

It is unique and special. Elegant from a time gone by ..nestled in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains. Amazing dining and spa as well!
