Just a short journey from the mainland, the Isle of Bute is one of Scotland’s most accessible islands and it offers far more than its compact size suggests. At the heart of the island lies Rothesay, the main town and arrival point for most visitors. Bustling with life during the day, Rothesay offers a relaxed, peaceful charm in the evenings after the last ferry departs. The CalMac ferry takes around 35 minutes and offers a comfortable crossing with stunning coastal views. It accommodates both vehicles and foot passengers, and docks right in the heart of Rothesay, Bute’s main town.  
  
Once you arrive, getting around is easy. Rothesay is very walkable, and taxis are readily available just outside the ferry terminal. The island is also served by a reliable public bus network, making it convenient to explore Bute without a car.
