About this property
Island View Hideaway- Peaceful, On the Water, Scenic, Birds, Nature, Sandbars!
Rent this furnished cottage to enjoy the beauty of nature on the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin. Conveniently located on shallow Lake Wisconsin waterfront with sandbars to wade to between Madison and the Wisconsin Dells, just 1.5 hours from Milw and 3 hours from Chicago.
Bring some firewood (or buy it locally) and have a campfire in the firepit next to the water!
This 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 2-story cottage has a bright, clean kitchen and a wonderful open layout on the first floor. Beautiful views out the large living room windows look onto green, sandy islands, sandbars and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake WI. Explore the many channels, sandbars, and islands of the WI River and Lake WI.
Same owner as smaller cottage next door.
SPRING, SUMMER, FALL & WINTER Adventures! Green trees, sunny sand-bars, and a lazy river await you. Tucked off the main channel the cottage has the best of both worlds…easy assess to the big water, a great view of the water and sunsets, but little boat traffic. Because of our shallow waterfront location, the choice is yours, launch your boat at one of 3 nearby boat launchs and head left for Lake Wisconsin or go right for the Wisconsin River. You’ve got it all right here! You can launch your boat daily and spend an exciting day on the open water of the lake (too shallow to get a boat of any size into our channel but you can park your trailer in front at the end of the day) or a quiet day exploring the Dells-like bluffs and the nearby islands, coves, and backwaters in your canoe or kayak. The shallow water in front is great for kayaks and canoes. Explore the many channels, sandbars, and islands of the WI River and Lake WI. Relax with friends or family on the deck after a day canoeing or kayaking around the sandy tree-covered islands.
Enjoy shallow water fishing from the sandbar in front, from our canoe, or use a boat to hit several of the best local fishing spots all within 5 minutes of the cottage: The Narrows, Fockes Bluffs, Tipperary Bluffs, and Camp Rest Park. Good fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie and more.
The cottage has a green lawn for yard games or for kids to run around in, plus just a block away is a park with playground equipment and wading beach, perfect for small children and dogs. Tennis and basketball courts are just a mile up the road. Bike riding opportunities on winding country roads in the area are fantastic. Up for a challenge? Circle Lake Wisconsin on your bike, it's about a 50-60 mile trip with a free ferryboat crossing as a highlight!
This two bedroom, two bathroom house has a full kitchen and an open layout. The kitchen is equipped with all you’ll need to prepare any meal you like…or grill out on waterside deck on the gas grill! Feeling lazy? Kick back and enjoy the 47” flat screen LCD HDTV, so...relax, sip a drink, even surf the web, and watch the river go by!
Beautiful views out the large living room windows and across the 16’x25’ deck look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake Wisconsin.
FALL & WINTER FUN! After the summer crowds leave you’ll find unique beauty and tranquility on the river. Tucked in among the surrounding bluffs and hillsides you’ll find gorgeous fall colors and dazzling winter scenery. Hundreds of wooded acres across the street are home to the Red Bellied Woodpecker, Wild Turkey, and White Tailed Deer, while the ever-changing river offers views of Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Beaver, and Muskrat. Scenic drives in all directions make interesting day trips more fun! Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the Wollensheim Winery, Wisconsin Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and so much more. Nearby ski hills include Cascade Mountain (15 min) and Devilshead Lodge (30 min).
So much to see and so much to do! Relaxing!
Fish for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie, and more. Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the WI Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and more! Great bird-watching!

Traveled from Milwaukee for the beauty and peacefulness of nature by the Wisconsin River. We enjoyed our stay in this very nice home with a great location. Well cared for property and we’d definitely return!!
It was a comfortable visit. We enjoyed the Christmas decorations and the hot tub. It was very convenient to have two bathrooms, and to be able to bring our dog with us.
I booked Island View Hideaway for our statecation because my husband is a birder and it did not disappoint. It is also perfectly situated for visiting Cave of the mounds, House on the Rock and Devils Lake without the crowds of the dells.
View of the river, with birds and cranes and geese - check. Hot tub - check. Fire pit - check. Dog friendly - check. This is the place for a lovely and relaxing getaway!
My family loves this place! We stayed in the smaller house next door 3 years ago and came back because it is so peaceful. We live just an hour away so this is a perfect escape for a few days of "spring break". It is great just sitting in the hot tub and watching the birds on the river. We will hopefully come back!
We had a phenomenal time! So close to cascade for skiing. The biggest bonus is that our family dog could come with, and that was huge for us. Hot tub was amazing! Kids had their own spot, and lots of entertaining games and movies! Want to come back in the summer!
Our family had a amazing stay at the Island View Hideaway. Due to it's location we had many of opportunity to see and hear ambudance of water foul and other wild life. S'mores by the fire and use of the hot tube where hylites. If making day tripes such as the Wisconsin Dells or Milwalkee, this was a great location and match. I would like to come back during the summer and see so much more.John, Kathryn, Micheal and Gabe.
We arrived on a Thursday & left on Monday. We had a wedding in the area (we are from NH). This place was home away from home and even better we were allowed to bring our dane. The deck was beautiful, the hot tub was a perfect touch & used it every night. We come every year ti visit our friends, this will be on our hit list every year. Thank you all so much for sharing your cottage.
Island View Hideaway is a cozy relaxing place. Lots of places to walk our dog, even with it being rainy!! It was just what we were looking for!! So much to watch right outside the back patio doors. The only suggestion would be to have a grab bar attached to the shower or side wall of the toilet for folks who have trouble getting up from the low toilet.
Lovely cottage right on the lake. Kitchen well stocked. Staircase for upstairs is a little tricky, definitely not for elderly people. Property and cottage nicely kept. We would come back
The house was perfect, with a great location on the water and an amazing view. The bird feeders were fantastic -- hummingbirds and orioles all day. The house was well appointed -- kitchen and BBQ and hot tub all terrific. The only problem was that the DVD player did not work -- it kept going black. Not a huge deal but something that could probably be fixed easily..
Very nice cabin/house on the backwaters of the Wisconsin River. Mostly kayaks and canoes passing by. Great area to just float and enjoy scenery. The property with a nice sand bar in front makes for a peaceful setting. The furniture and amenities within the home are in very good condition with name brand appliances. Everything worked and was easy to get into vacation mode. Thank goodness for the Wifi, cell single can be spotty. The property manager stopped by and was quick to fix/adjust/ and offer help. He really went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. We really liked the property and plan to be back next summer.
The location of this house is lovely. The back deck overlooking the very peaceful water was wonderful. We appreciated the gate on the deck so the dogs wouldn’t get off the deck when we didn’t want them to. We really got a kick out of the sandhill cranes calling to each other and we saw bald eagles twice. We used the house as a base for many hiking adventures in the area and the nature could not be more beautiful.A few things that weren’t great: the upstairs bedroom is only accessible by a very very narrow spiral staircase. The dogs wouldn’t go up there and my 78 year old mom, who hiked several miles a day with me and my sister and is very fit, was not comfortable in the stairs. If I had little kids I wouldn’t have liked them using the spiral staircase. I think that should’ve been disclosed in the description. The pans in the kitchen had scratched Teflon and I don’t think they are safe to use. We had to go buy disposable pans at the piggly wiggly. The extra sheets for the pull out couch (where I slept since my dog would’ve cried all night if I had gone upstairs since she couldn’t go up the spiral stairs) were threadbare and scratchy and the extra blankets were stained so I wasn’t comfortable with their cleanliness. The upstairs bathroom wasn’t clean. We were graciously allowed a late checkout with we appreciated. The binder with suggestions about the area helped us find some great hiking spots. The local caretaker was friendly and unobtrusive.
Lovely and Clean but had a negative rental manager experience.
This cottage is wonderful! It was so clean and cozy. We came here for a ladies' weekend. 3 sisters and our mom. We LOVED the hot tub, the view was breathtaking, quiet neighborhood, and easy access in/out. The host was communicative during the VRBO process and was very accommodating with my questions. The rental manager, however, was not great. We had issues with the gas fireplace. (We came in February and it's still cold so we were excited for this luxury for extra warmth). I needed to call the manager our first night to get instructions on how to restart it as it was shut off. He was helpful, however, very short with me and I felt like it was inconvenient that I had to call him for this. I got it turned back on and we shut it off before bed. The next day, we were apprehensive on restarting it (the instructions in the binder were not aligning with the pilot, etc.). I called the manager asking him if he could possibly come over (the VRBO instructions stated he lived across the street) and assist us in a safe start and maybe go over the correct process. He refused and was annoyed with me and proceeded to blame us for 'messing around with it' and it will just have to remain off. I was really taken back by his demeanor and I only hope the host is aware of this so it does not happen to future tenants.Highly recommend this rental if the future of management can be improved.
