"The most uncomfortable accommodations but inexpensive Appenzell you can’t be picky if you’re on a budget. The room, including the en suite bathroom is no bigger than a standard American bathroom, airless, windowless, and claustrophobic. We did not sleep, no air quality controls. However, the establishment is charming, the breakfast was ample and the staff is ultra kind and the hotel\restaurant is a five minute walk from the train station and superbly located- loved Appenzell and the surrounding outdoor activities that’s for sure."

"No one was there. Everything is online the problem is their system failed so we couldn't have our room keys. For what you pay, the conditions are not great, the room is not good. I do not recommend staying here."

"At first I was a little skeptical as this hotel is self-check in and I was concerned about accessing my room however I was pleasantly surprised and very happy that I selected Giessen Hotel and Coffeehouse! There were easy to use directions to check in and the ability to self code a key or more was super easy. The room was clean and comfortable. The best part was breakfast! It was by far the most enjoyable breakfast experience we have had in our travels. The Coffeehouse assigned our table by room number so finding a space was not a problem. The self select menu was perfect and allowed for as much food as you could eat. After you make your breakfast selections, give the list to the staff and they take over. The service was quick and the food was fresh and delicious! The coffee was wonderful and I highly recommend the Ginger Lemon shots! The hotel is also centrally located so getting to the the surrounding sites was also very easy! I highly recommend a stay at the Giessen Hotel and Coffeehouse. "

"The staff at the front desk were terribly Friendly- MS REBECCA, KUSEY (hope I got it right) and the very lovely GM of the hotel. She offered my husband the local beer which was a very kind gesture. We were surprised at the respectfulness, friendliness and everything that you can ask from a front desk staff. The hotel is very clean and the breakfast buffet was delicious. My husband enjoyed the bacon."
