"This is a good stop-off point especially for travellers arriving at Santander on the ferry, which now docks at 6pm. It takes about 2 to 2 1/2 hours drive from Santander, virtually all on the A67 motorway, so it is a good place to break the journey to Portugal or south-western Spain. "When we first travelled in Spain 30 years ago, this was the typical hotel. Honest to goodness accommodation for travellers. It was fine. Comfortable and clean. Old fashioned but fine. "Palencia is a very pleasant quiet town. it made an ideal stopover with an opportunity to visit the very interesting cathedral which is full of treasures. Hotel Don Rodrigo is on a quiet street close to the rive and a short walk from the cathedral and town centre.
