#### Bring your kids to the fascinating ruins of a castle to try on medieval clothes and lie on its straw bed.

Oxwich Castle is a stately Tudor relic that stands atop a hill on the Gower Peninsula. Dating back to the 16th century, the manor house once accommodated a noble family and their servants. Appreciate views of the surrounding wooded headland and Oxwich Bay Beach from this hilltop castle.

Gaze up at the partly ruined castle and imagine how it might have looked in its prime. Tour the site and its various passages and chambers. It once contained an imposing hall and stylish gallery. Marvel at the six-floor tower that still stands today. It is thought to have housed the servants.

Visit the room upstairs that has been recreated with old furniture, including costumes and a straw bed. Note the range of Tudor foundations and the Elizabethan features that were added later. Enjoy a picnic at one of the tables with views of the forest and the sea.

Learn the intriguing history of the castle, which belonged to Sir Rhys Mansel, High Sheriff of Glamorgan in the 1500s. It fell into disrepair after the Mansels left in the 1630s and it was converted into a farmhouse.

The surrounding countryside is as stunning as the castle itself. Embark on coastal walks and take your family to the nearby Oxwich Bay Beach, often considered among Britain’s most beautiful stretches of sand. Walk among the dunes, wetlands and woodland in the nature park. Peruse the shops and restaurants and rent equipment for water sports such as water skiing, diving and sailing.

The castle is open for public visits from the start of April until the end of October. Visit during opening hours between morning and late afternoon, Wednesday through Sunday. Adults pay a small fee and children and families get discounts.

Oxwich Castle is 13 miles (21 kilometers) west along the coast from Swansea. The journey should take half an hour by car or more than 1 hour on a two-bus trip. Find the castle between Oxwich Field and the Greenways of Gower Premier Leisure Park. Nearby attractions include the beach and the Church of St. Illtyd.

Always amazing and friendly staff, with very little issues. However, on this occasion it wasn't ideal and I felt a little deflated. We had initially booked a 1 night stay but changed this for 2 nights. Everything was well and as expected as per our previous experiences. We started to encounter a couple of issues with some random men (3) knocking on our door on 2 separate occasions which I just put down to random behavior. Secondly, we had a very rowdy couple next door arguing and shouting, alongside banging and slamming the interal bathroom door. This was followed by a family with children who were running, thumping and screaming until gone 2am. I don't blame the children, as a mother of 9 children I know how difficult it can be to entertain them in a single room away from home and they are entitled to make noise. However, it didn't seem like the parents done very much to discourage them, as they had been very loud themselves. I booked a 2nd night because I just needed the rest and the break. They couldn't accommodate a room change due to a wedding which was fine, so I just chanced it and prayed for a quieter night. It wasn't as bad and the children did settle before 1am and woke at 6am LOL. The other issue was the draining of the shower. Whilst showering I had to turn it off 3 times just to allow the water to drain otherwise we'd of made a new Hilton swimming pool. My daughter thought it was hysteral. The rooms and breakfast are always perfect :)

My booking described the room as, "One Bedroom Apartment with Balcony". As it was a ground floor apartment it had an enclosed patio. The crockery and cutlery were stained from where they had been in the dishwasher, one knife had food baked on it. The television was dated and the remote needs new batteries. The furniture in the bedroom was dated; the mattress was old and past its best. Some of the floor tiles in the bathroom were loose and/or cracked. The shower head was small and dated. Urban Space encourage you to recycle but don't leave you bags or containers to do so. The kitchen light would turn itself off after a few minutes.
