![The Ohio Statehouse with its iconic 70ft tall cupola was completed in 1861. There was a eight-year lapse in the building of the Statehouse from 1840-1848. The completed basement and foundations were actually filled in with soil and Capitol Square was used as a pasture. 

It is one of the oldest state capitol buildings still in use.

The figure in the foreground is a sculpture titled "Peace". The statue was unveiled in 1923, as a Civil War memorial recognizing the contributions of the troops in the fields and the women they left behind.

![Prior to the renovation of Capitol Square, people had to brave wind, rain, and pigeons as they crossed back and forth between the Statehouse and the Senate Building. This open-air area between the two buildings became known as "Pigeon Run" due to the number of pigeons that congregated. In 1993, the space between the two buildings was enclosed to create the Capitol Atrium.

Though the cardinal has enjoyed its status as the official state bird since 1933, the Statehouse is home to another notable avian-Ohioan. If you squint and use a bit of imagination, you can see Pete the Pigeon is perched above the west entrance door to the Senate Building.

This property was more than I could have ever expected! It looks like something out of HGTV. It’s absolutely gorgeous and so many tiny unique details. The beds are very comfortable, lots of towels in the gorgeous bathroom and the kitchen is fully stocked with everything for preparing meals. Unfortunately we were only staying for one night but I will absolutely be booking here again! Things to keep in mind tho, the top floor bedroom with 2 beds has VERY steep and narrow steps so if you have balance issues or small children I would suggest not having them sleep in that room. Also it would be very difficult to bring up or down a large suitcase but for the one night we stayed it wasn’t much of an issue. The parking is limited and even with the wonderful specific directions it was a little confusing at first and we did have to park on the next block over after returning later in the evening after a concert. It wouldn’t deter me tho, just make me keep in mind how much I pack and have to unload into the unit 😆all in all it was a perfect place!! 10 out of 10!!!

![The LeVeque Tower is a steel frame building covered in glazed architectural terra-cotta tiles with an oak-bark texture.

Originally, the building's exterior featured a large number of sculptures. However, much of it had to be removed because the terra-cotta began to crumble and fall to the street. Lost sculptures include four 18 feet eagles at the corners of the building at the 36th floor and four 20 feet statues of colossus and youth on the sides of the building at the setback of the 40th floor 

The spaces left by the departed sculpture serve as the bases for lights used to illuminate the tower. The Tower is often illuminated in white, but the colors change for certain holidays. Green for St,. Patrick's Day. Red, White and Blue for the 4th of July. Red and Green for the Christmas season.
