Originally a convent wrapped in history Le Monache has a magical and mystical atmosphere. Whether you are lazing by the pool or strolling in the olive grove or simply relaxing in your apartment you are in another world. Great care has been taken to restore all of the original features, including vaulted ceilings and beamed ceilings . Meanwhile all the modern conveniences have been incorporated. The property has central heating, air conditioning is not necessary as the house dates back to the 11thC. and the walls are over a meter thick, keeping the house at a comfortable temperature. There is a laundry room with washing machine for the use of the guests. The kitchen is equipped with very good range of stainless steel utensils and place settings. The sitting room is furnished with large sofa, side tables, lamps and Satellite TV. The beds in each of the rooms are comfortable with sprung slat bases and good quality mattresses. Bathrooms are fully tiled with large pedestal wash basins, bidet, wc, large mirrors and enclosed power showers. We are 300m above sea level and in open countryside, in the summer heat we have the sea breeze in the afternoon and evening.The swimming pool is 6mx15m surrounded by a terracotta patio, with sun loungers, tables and large parasols. The gazebo has table and 6 chairs. There area 2 large barbecues on wheels, a wood burning oven for pizza or grilling. The gardens are surrounded by hedges of laurel, bay leaf, and oleanders; one area of the garden has rosemary hedges, shrubs or myrtle and pomogranates, fig trees, mulberry and plums. Herbs are placed around the garden for use of the guests. The middle garden is a formal rose garden with box hedges and terracotta pots. The car park is inside the gates of the property shaded by secular oak trees and young lime trees. Beyond the gardens there is 4.5 hectars of olive grove an woodland. We produce some the best Organic Extra-Virgin Olive Oil in the area. Some of our guests join us during the harvest from picking the olives to taking them to the Olive-press and bringing the oil home! Le Monache is the Tuscany that many dream of- perfect family vacation destination-- A journey in the past, rolling hills, peaceful, rural, friendly and simple tiny village an excellent location for visiting all the major cultural and historical centres of Tuscany. Podere Le Monache is situated in a small hamlet with all the ameneties you require for a relaxing stress free vacation. We have 2 excellent restaurants walking distance, where you can enjoy a meal and a glass of wine without having to drive. The small shop/deli offers an excellent choise of local products and fresh fruit and dairy. They have a delivery of fresh bread and croissants every morning. One of the restuarants offers cooking classes and wine Tasting. Jul 4, 2014 #### A lovely farmhouse in the Tuscan Hills The property has 4 apartments and a beautiful pool which was a great way to end our days touring the Tuscan area. Let me start by saying that Cinzia Castellacci, the manager/caretaker/our contact was AMAZING!!!!! If we ever return, it will be because of her. That being said, we were not thrilled with the apartment. It was small for 4 people, the bathrooms were too small(showers were like cruise-ship sized), with no shelves for your soap/shampoo etc. I had to open the door so that I could move and wash myself and I'm not a big guy. The sitting room was upstairs, not comfortable and very dark, no windows, and not very inviting. In 2 weeks, we never used this room. The best part was sitting/eating outside on the terrace with amazing views. Do bring or buy bug repellent. They have mosquitos and other small flies that do bite. Windows do not have screens!! Bedrooms were comfortable, kitchen was a good size. Sep 3, 2019 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Super vacances en famille La propriété est très bien aménagée et très bien entretenue tous les matins par Massimo qui est à notre disposition en cas de besoin. Elle est située dans un tout petit village avec une épicerie et 2 restaurants. Il y a un terrain de pétanque public en face de l'église, à 2 pas de la résidence. C'est idéallement situé à +/-1h de Pise, Florence et Sienne et +/-30 min de Volterra et de San Gimignano. L'appartement est spacieux et frais malgré la canicule et l'absence de climatisation. Gennaro avait proposé de mettre 4 lits dans la chambre enfants pour que personne ne doive dormir sur le canapé lit du salon. C'est un peu serré dans une chambre à 4, mais c'est tout à fait satisfaisant. Tout est prévu pour un séjour agréable: draps de bains en suffisance, petites attentions de bienvenue à notre arrivée sur la table (vin, huile d'olive, passata, pâtes), prises anti moustique dans toutes les pièces, ... Il ne manque rien. Et que dire des légumes du jardin mis à disposition des hôtes. Elisabetta donne des renseignements touristique sur demande. Elle s'occupe des commandes de pain qui est à disposition à la résidence dès notre levé (car il n'y a pas de boulangerie au village). J'ai hésité à rédiger cet avis pour garder cette bonne adresse pour moi, mais vu la qualité du séjour, je n'hésiterai pas à y retourner un jour. ##### DOMINIQUE R. Stayed 13 nights in Jul 2019 This review was submitted before 2018 and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Stefan H., Hong Kong Aug 22, 2017 #### Well maintained holiday appartment in beautiful, quiet location \- small house with 4 holiday apartments (2 with terrace, 2 with patio) - well maintained and very well managed (big thanks to the ever-present Cinzia) - nice pool with different depths makes it suitable for children of various ages as well as adults - Wifi speed mostly quite good (separated for each apartment), a bit slower in the evening when most guests at home - location a bit more remote (1h to Florence, 1h to Pisa, 45min to Siena) but only 25min to San Gimignano, Volterra also less than 45min) - Iano has two small restaurants and a small minimarket (regards to Mauro) which covers all basic needs; for a bit more choice and selection need to drive 20min to Montaione ##### Stefan H. Very nice place to visit. Beautiful views and quiet for relaxing. Cinzia was very helpful with information on local events and directions to locations around the area. She went above and beyond in helping us find family in Italy that we wanted to meet. The property is well kept and the gardens are beautiful. We would definitely recommend this property.
