About this property
Charming, historic riverfront lodge on 7 wooded acres with 6 bedrooms
The Dan de Lion Lodge is a charming, historic home, built in 1918, as a "speak easy" during Mobile's prohibition era. Later it was converted to a home and added on to for family fleeing Nazis during World War II. Newly renovated, it is perfect for family gatherings, retreats, grilling, boating, fishing, watching mullet jump and relaxing sunset viewing on the wharf. Nestled among 7 acres of Live Oaks and Palmettos on the banks of beautiful Dog River, this house is only 15 minutes from Downtown Mobile; a city famous for being the birthplace of Mardi Gras, delicious Gulf seafood and several antebellum homes in its 600 blocks of historic districts. World famous Bellingrath Gardens is 30 minutes to the south and the beautiful white sand beaches of Dauphin Island are 45 minutes away.

We loved spending time in your lovely home! Everything was just perfect and our family gathered there for great food and visiting! Thank you for allowing us to enjoy family and food in such beautiful surroundings!
Absolutely amazing time to gather with family & enjoy this home & it's surrounding area. Thank you for blessing us with the opportunity to create life lasting memories. Family from Minnesota, South Dakota joined here to celebrate my son's graduation from USA. Even in the Gulf Coast heat in July we enjoyed every minute!!
Nice home but quirky and kind of old fashioned. I’m sure lots of people love homes like this because it’s very unique but I thought it was just ok. The dock and access to the river was amazing. Worker out well for a few guys in town for work but I probably wouldn’t stay here with my family. Again, ok but not great.
Love the property. This is our second stay here. Everyone loved the dock, fire pit area and large dining table. We fished, swam, roasted marshmallows and played dominoes. It was great!
What a gorgeous spot to hang out! Charming, historic home, quiet, water-side setting. I think we’ll be coming back next year—next time we’ll allocate less time on the golf course and more time here.
They were great hosts. It was a tough time because we were going to a funeral in Mobile. We were drained emotionally. Staying there and on the river was very helpful In getting through. The whole family loved it.
We had a lovely time. Our family stayed there for our nephew's wedding at Fort Conde Inn. The location of this VRBO was ideal. The grounds are so beautiful!
The beds were all comfortable and the house was fully equipped. Thank you for your hospitality.everythin
Dandelion Lodge accommodated our group perfectly. Plenty of room to relax and socialize. Views of Dog River and being able to enjoy the sunset in the warf/dock was a bonus.
Location worked well and offered balance of access to plenty of restaurants stores while being secluded enough to truly get away.
We had such a good time. The house is amazing and very comfortable. It is really easy to get to and very close to things to do with still a feeling of being away from it all. Very stress-free. Thanks to the owners for sharing.
Our time at DandeLion Lodge was exceptional! Our group found everything to be readily available and accessible! We would definitely recommend this to others and come again ourselves. Some spent more time at the pier than the house as they are anglers to the core! :) The view and spaciousness of the house was just phenomenal for a group of 12 adults. We were highly impressed and blessed to spend time bonding, relaxing and being refreshed in your home!
Perfect for large families. Kids loved the river and dock. Fires every night. It feels like if your grandparents had an old place out in the woods. You feel right at home.
This is our second stay at the dandelion! Great property with the best history. I wish there was a book of stories this house has seen! Ask about the picked flowers from the property in the bedrooms. 🌸The house is old and should be treated with respect and not ever seen as a flaw but as the great character it has earned!
There was about 12 of us that stayed over memorial day weekend for several birthdays and to celebrate the holiday. We had a great time! There was plenty of room for everyone, multiple refrigerators to store drinks and food and a fully functional kitchen with lots of counter space and cooking equipment. We even had room to bring our crawfish boilers and do a small crawfish boil.We were also able to bring our boats and park them on the dock with plenty of room for 3 - 22ft.The only negative I would say is some of the mattresses could be changed as my husband and I sunk in the middle and we had some tall people with us that didn't quite fit the double beds, so maybe some queen beds would be helpful.
Second time we have stayed with our family over Christmas. Beautiful property, plenty of room to spread out, amazing sunsets! Such a cool old home with tons of character. Great location to visit the rest of our family. Marbury is super helpful for anything needed. Only thing I would change is queen beds instead of doubles.
We enjoyed exploring the house to see all its varied decor. The house and land provided plenty of space for everyone to be together or have some private space when needed. It was the most stocked rental we've ever used. Loved sitting or swinging on the dock first thing in the a.m. with a hot cup of coffee... doesn't get any better!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dandelion Lodge on Dog River. The 100+ year old home was large and sufficiently spacious to accommodate our family (6 bedrooms) and included all the modern amenities that make home away from home extra enjoyable. We were in Mobile for a family wedding, so our schedule was full. Wish we'd had more time to just hang out at the property and relax. We will definitely be back (property owner willing) in the future.
Our purpose in Mobile was the Southeastern Theater Conference. Having a house in a beautiful setting allowed us easy access to downtown Mobile but a nice retreat for everyone to gather. The size of the property allowed all of us to be together or not. Some liked the tranquility of the dock, others used the front porch to run lines for the show.
The big round table in the dining room had plenty of room for all of us to talk, have a meal or play a game. Great property!
This is our family’s 4th Christmas staying here & we absolutely love it! This house is so unique & has so much charm. We love the private lot away from a busy road, our adult kids love playing games on the lawn & hanging out on the dock. Some new pan’s & Tupperware were added this year, a nice surprise. Maybe next year a new mattress in the room closest to the deck! We love the history of this home, it has made our Christmases magical! * for those who have never been, this house is OLD the floors aren’t level, the decor is quirky, if that bothers you this isn’t the place for you. Which is great, because we LOVE IT!
Words cannot describe this place! Be prepared to stock up on food as you will not want to leave, the dock, the porches, the wildlife, the beds everything was perfect and wished we could have stayed longer. Marbury was an excellent host with clear communication and the place is better than described, the photos do not do it justice and would highly recommend.
