About us: Casa Koala is owned and professionally managed by Burro y Flauta Vacation Properties, and guests will have access to the concierge manager as needed during their stay. Burro y Flauta is a vacation property rental and management company owned and operated by ex-pats from the U.S. who have made Merida our home. We have traveled a lot and stayed in a variety of properties around the world, so we know what you need and want from your vacation property. Allow us to help make your visit to Merida perfect! Burro y Flauta owns and manages several other vacation homes in the historical center of Merida (between 1-5 bedrooms); please check them all out! Check-in & Check-out: Check in is available after 3pm. Check out is before 11am. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability at the sole discretion of the host. Early check-in availability is determined on the day of arrival and is a free courtesy to our guests. If you need a late check-out, then we might be able to permit it depending on the needs of our next guest, but we will charge a late check-out fee. General Rules: 1\. To book this space, you must be at least 21 years of age. 2\. The name on the reservation must match the person staying in the house. To verify, we may require a photo of ID of all people entering the property. 3\. Quiet hours are observed from 10pm to 8am on the interior and exterior of the property. The purpose of quiet hours is to maintain a quiet and comfortable environment for all guests and neighbors. 4\. No smoking inside the space. If a guest is found smoking or evidence of smoking is found after check-out there is a $500 USD fine. You may smoke on the exterior patios granted you use the provided ash trays. 5\. Please only flush toilet paper down the toilet. 6\. An excessive cleaning fee of a minimum of $75 USD will apply to any reservation which caused excessive cleaning services to be rendered. 7\. Guests are responsible for any breakage or damage to the property. Fees: \- The fee for overnight visitors above a total of 4 guests is $300 pesos per person per night. Any additional guests require prior approval from the host. \- One small (under 15kg) pet is welcome, but the guest is responsible for all damage caused by their pets. An extra pet fee of USD$75 will be charged. \- Electricity is included for stays of 2 weeks or less; and for stays of longer than 2 weeks, no electricity is charged unless the usage greater is USD$3 a day for the 1BR or 2BR homes, or USD$5 a day for the larger homes. \- For rentals in excess of 1 week, weekly cleaning as well as pool maintenance will be provided at no extra charge. Contact us if you are interested in additional cleaning for an extra fee. \- Lost key or electric key fob will result in a US$20 charge. \- We are not responsible for any left items after check-out. If we do have to ship an item, there is a minimum of $50 (depending on the size of the items) shipping fee by host plus the shipping company cost to ship the item. It may take up to 14 days before we can ship the items. Additional Notes: To keep the pool clean and maintained during your stay and for future guests, our pool staff is scheduled to service the pool three times per week. The total service should take 30 minutes to 1 hour. Merida is a hot and humid climate, and this climate tends to host insects. As a result, you may see insects in the house. We do monthly extermination to try to prevent problems but it's not a perfect solution. We also supply bug spray and citronella candles to assist. We are not responsible for any items brought into or left at the house. If you believe that you left something in the house after your departure, then please let us know. We will verify whether we have the item and share our office address so that you may pick it up. We will store any such items in our ‘Lost and Found’ located in our office for 30 days. If no one has come to claim those items within the 30 days, then we will dispose of it. Furniture and décor from pictures may differ. We are always upgrading and improving the look and feel of our property for the comfort and pleasure of our guests. The house was equipped with everything we needed to make it feel like our home away from home. The host and everyone connected with Case Koala were awesome. I appreciated the in-person welcome and their flexibility to let us check-in earlier than planned. Please note that the Casita bedroom, located at the end of the courtyard garden, doesn't have an en-suite bathroom. We were able to check in, communicating any questions, checking out with no problems. The casa was well stocked with everything we would need or want. The thing I found most helpful was the Casa Koala book. It guided us on were to eat, how far things were, pool service, places to see, drinking water, etc. Thank you. We could not have imagined a more positive and rewarding experience in Merida. Our expectations of the property, the neighborhood, and the community were more than met, from the time we stepped into Casa Koala until we left for the airport at the end of our stay.Michael and Becca were the perfect hosts. We found them professional, personable, and fun to talk with. They took time to meet with us, sharing interesting information about the community and the Mexican/Yucatecan culture. Casa Koala was absolutely immaculate and maintained that way by the staff for our entire stay. The concierge services provided by Yaatza and Beto were above and beyond expectations. We can't say enough about them or the housekeeping and maintenance staff. All were professional, friendly, and responsive to our questions and requests. Convenient to the city centre and such an oasis! The courtyard and private pool was a wonderful place to relax and cool off after a busy day in the heat. It was fully equipped with everything we needed, and the design choices delighted me constantly. The king bed is memory foam and very comfortable, and the bed linens were high quality cotton.The kitchen is beautifully -equipped (and we did cook — we hosted some friends for dinner). The pool provides a refreshing dip which we used several times a day even though it wasn't terribly hot when we were there. There is very effective air conditioning in both bedrooms and in the livingroom. There are ceiling fans in every room. The washer/dryer work well. The host left plenty of supplies (TP, bathroom condiments, dish soap, sponge laundry soap, bug spray, towels, etc) for our four night stay.The whole place is a delight for the senses: beautiful tile floors, skylights, high ceilings, light fixtures, wall hangings, ceramics. The furniture is very comfortable. We were met there by Beto, who was super helpful and knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. He set up a whatsapp group with us and another person so we had two people to contact in case of any need. It turned out we needed help when we couldn't figure out how to turn on the oven. We received a response within a few minutes, and a few minutes later, someone came over to show us that we just needed to push the dial in as well as turn it. Overall, our experience was excellent. Don't miss this gorgeous oasis of calm, comfort and beauty. ##### Robin K. It was easy to get to- walking distance from Santiago and the main plaza. We used the bikes on Sunday for the weekly bike ride. I loved d the pool and cooled off in the morning, midday and at the end of the day. My son, his girlfriend, my husband had wonderful sleeping quarters. The staff was so helpful and responsive. My fiancée and I stayed at Casa Koala for about a month and we DID NOT want to leave! This house is breathtaking, the neighborhood is perfect, pretty much all that you could want and need is in either walking or driving distance (we used the didi app and had absolutely no issues, most rides were no more than $5 usd). There is so much to do in Centro Merida, the host Mike, Becca, and Beto make sure that you have all the information on what’s going on in the city and their favorite restaurants. Speaking of Beto, he’s our new best friend! 😆 He was so helpful, even before our trip, with any plans and questions that we had. He was so kind and so responsive and he set up day excursions for our group. We had issues with our phone service the first day we arrived and had to get Mexico phone numbers; he picked us up in his personal vehicle, took us to a local telcel, and set up both of our phones for us. We also spent our last week in Mexico at a ‘boutique hotel’ in Isla Mujeres that was terrible to say the least, we reached out to Beto for help with finding a shuttle (the hotel was very much off the beaten path) and he was very responsive, even offered for us to come back to the house in Merida until our flight and made sure that we got to our next resort safely. The cleaning and pool service was great.. there’s just not enough positive things to say about our stay, this house, and the service. We will DEFINITELY stay here again whenever we come back to Merida! There’s absolutely nothing negative to say about this house, their service, and our stay ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ##### Des W. The only drawback is that the pool was too cold to do more than dangle our feet in. I don’t know if there is some kind of chiller used to keep it cold, but it’s really not necessary. Very quiet area but close enough to downtown. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was everything you needed. Alberto was always available and if you needed anything it was provided in a very timely matter. Becka provided us with the name of a vet for our dog prior to us arriving in Merida which was greatly appreciated. All in all we had a fantastic stay in a wonderful Casa in Merida. Great location. Lots of thoughts, work and efforts was put by owner(s) to restore a colonial style building and implement all modern features guests from up north use to take for granted. Very well equipped kitchen, all one would need for cooking, all utensils of good quality and in sufficient quantities. Drinking water, coffee (actually same brand from Costco we drink at home), other basic stuff as salt, pepper, etc. Very comfortable beds, quality linens, plenty of towels, shampoo, etc. Great bicycles, used them every day. Casa Koala surpassed our expectations! This architect designed home was the perfect getaway for us, where we could explore Merida and enjoy a quiet, well appointed casa to return to each day after exploring the Yucatan or a day in Merida filled with fabulous restaurants, leafy plazas, markets and historic cathedrals. The clean, serene rooms with tiled floors, airy ceilings with fans and windows, roof deck patios and courtyard with plunge pool were well used by us, and a perfect place to relax when temperatures were too warm outside. The well equipped kitchen and ice maker were perfect for making home cooked meals and drinks.
