There were bugs and spiders, also not as clean as it should be. The rug in the livingroom was so dirty it should be replaced. Livingroom furniture was very uncomfortable to sit on.There were splatters on the window over the sink and food splatters on the side of the fridge.The entire place needs to be deep cleaned and trimming needs to be done along with other yard work. I realize it is in the woods and is pet friendly but it was not worth what we paid for the stay. I forgot to mention we had to wash the blanket before we could sleep under it, it had pubic hair on it, not good!!! We will not book this place again and we were celebrating my 77 birthday, there were times I just wanted to leave but we had paid for two nights so we toughed it out! Future renters beware.

July 4th stay

We absolutely loved our stay at The Shire! The fenced in yard was perfect for our dogs. We loved the direct water access and we kayaked for hours. The house had everything we needed. We will certainly come back again.

Perfect Family Getaway

Exactly what we were looking for! The Shire was perfect spot for our quick family get away. Close to everything but entertainment right on site. Kayaking the river - finding the old dam/waterfall, saw wildlife (deer, geese), fishing, ending the day in the hot tub then dinner around the fire. Holly was great help with ideas for entertaining a 14 yr old and things to do. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed this riverfront cabin, and the fenced in yard was perfect for our dog. The property manager was also easy to deal with, and helped us facilitate a late-notice date change with no fuss.Only good things to say! We plan on returning in the future.

Pick The Shire for your R&R vacay

We are from Florida and take a vacation every summer to a different state. I like to plan our vacations around waterfalls, lakes and rivers. The Shire was the perfect place for us. We love cozy cabins/cottages and this did not disappoint. Right on the river with kayaks to use. We also brought our own floats which were very relaxing on the river. Some of the nearby waterfalls were dried up due to lack of rain but I was happy to get to see 5. The Shire was was clean and came with a lot of amenities others don't offer. Holly was amazing by accommodating us for an extra night. She also helped us find The Shire since we punched in the wrong County Road (oops)! We would recommend The Shire for anyone looking for some R&R. They are very dog friendly as well with a chain link fence in the backyard. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Amazing gem and wonderful location

Our stay at The Shire was nothing short of amazing! A quiet retreat with all the perfect amenities. It was peaceful and comfortable accommodations. The host was very responsive. We enjoyed the local cuisine, hiking, kayaking, and amazing scenery. We will stay here again! Cannot say enough wonderful things about this splendid cottage.

A great weekend

We really enjoyed our stay! Even though there was a burn ban and a drought, we relaxed in the hot tub, hiked in Desoto Park, visited arts & crafts events, went antique shopping, and ate local. The fenced in yard was a plus for our dogs. A perfect getaway to celebrate our 27 year anniversary.

Great property in a Great Location!

The Shire is better than described on the listing. I planned for a relaxing break from the stress of work and town and this was Perfect! The property is rustic and very charming! The fully stocked kitchen, outside grill and the Hot Tub makes it worthwhile! The Geese , chipmunks and hummingbirds are just lagniappe! Will visit again!!

Anniversary get away

This property is amazing in all aspects! Quaint and quiet, just what we wanted. All the amenities you would need or want. A great hot tub, fireplace and fire pit. The yard is beautifully wooded and private. We made use of the outdoor grill more than once. The beds were especially comfortable and we slept like a dream. We lost power one day and Holly was more than helpful finding out how long repairs would take and than gave us suggestions on things to do in town. We were close to two great restaurants and also De Soto falls where we wanted to hike. Took a day trip to nearby Chattanooga, this cabin was fairly centrally located to everything on our to do list. I would definitely recommend it!!! Thanks for a wonderful anniversary!!!!

Cozy, quiet, comfortable

Absolutely loved everything about this cottage- view of & access to the water, comfy beds, nice appliances, adorable decor and aesthetic, quiet location in a beautiful residential area… I could go on! The hot tub sits within a screened porch just outside of the back door. It’s very nice & felt amazing! Much thought was put into making this spot as cozy as it is efficient. The yard is perfection. Your doggo will agree! We are already planning to return & stay longer.

Winter Retreat

We had a lovely 2 night getaway at The Shire. This quaint and cozy property was ideal for a relaxing weekend of enjoying steaks on the grill and a dip in the hot tub. Although we brought some items “just in case” The Shire was equipped with all that we could possibly need. The cabin was well organized and clean. It is evident that the property is well maintained both inside and out. Looking forward to our next visit.

Mentone get away

Our stay at The Shire in Mentone was wonderful! The cabin is just as described online. Rustic and very comfortable. Well equipped kitchen for cooking. The hot tub was awesome! And the securely fenced yard was perfect for our canine companion. We were visited by Mallard Ducks in the river every morning, as well as Canadian Geese. We would love to come back in the summer to utilize the kayaks and explore the river! Thanks.
