Maria Island is a fantastic year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on what you'd like to experience.
The summer months, December to February, offer the warmest weather, making them ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and enjoying the island's many walking tracks in comfortable conditions. This period is also excellent for spotting marine life around the coast.
For those keen on wildlife viewing, particularly wombats, kangaroos, and the Tasmanian devil, spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) are superb. The weather is generally mild, and there are fewer visitors than in summer, offering a more tranquil experience. Birdwatchers will find spring especially rewarding as many species are active and breeding.
Winter, from June to August, is the quietest time to visit. While it's cooler, the island remains stunning, and you'll often have its natural beauty almost to yourself.
