#### One of the foremost charms of the Pembrokeshire Coast, Manorbier Castle makes for a fantastic day out, especially for families and anyone with a passion for Welsh history. This well-preserved Norman Castle is to be found not far from the pretty seaside town of Tenby. With medieval frescoes visible in the old chapel and a fine gatehouse with intact defensive facilities, despite the inevitable decay caused by the passage of time, this remains a majestic and atmospheric structure.

Take your time wandering the grounds, and you’ll spot some striking figures hanging around the place, such as prisoners in the dungeons, or the children of noble families playing in Tudor dress, that effectively give you an idea of what life would have been like here in the past. Once home to the famous 12th century scholar Gerald of Wales, who wrote that it was “the pleasantest spot in Wales”, Manorbier Castle has been used as a film location on several occasions and is also notable for its walled gardens, designed by Daphne Shackleton, one of Ireland’s most celebrated botanical artists.

The Castle overlooks the beautiful Manorbier Bay, with the beach just moments away, and there are numerous picturesque coastal walks to be found. Staying within the walls, however, you’ll find a modern cafe that sells locally produced fare and fresh coffee, and there is also a house that can be rented for short holidays, giving guests the unique experience of waking up inside a castle.

This place is only good, certainly not excellent, because its location is very good( easy access to Cardiff, Bute Park and stadiums), it is very clean and the breakfasts are excellent. However, the room and the ensuite were disappointingly small,especially for the price! Also, with the exception of the lovely breakfast girls, there was little warmth in the welcome at the main reception desk.Certainly, the least welcoming place we have stayed in for a while!

Manorbier castle, built at the end of the 11th century, only had two small skirmishes take place at its location.  The castle survived those battles.  It lost the war, however, with time and patience.

Regarded as one of the most impressive castles in Wales, visitors to Carew Castle can trace the structure’s history from Norman fortifications to when it became an Elizabethan country home owned by Sir John Perrot, possibly an illegitimate son of Henry VIII, before its eventual abandonment in the 17th Century. Several notable features have resulted, including earthworks created by Royalist defenders during the Civil War and window frames dating to Tudor times that were made of imported Cotswold stone that stands out against the local limestone used for the rest of the building.
