Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, is situated about 130 miles (209 kilometers) to the northwest of Kardzali.
It's little wonder Kardzali is such a hotspot for vacationers from across the globe; the surrounding region is an Aladdin's Cave of interesting attractions. Haskovo, 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the southwest, and Dimitrovgrad, 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the south of Kardzali are worth a visit too.
Plovdiv, is another interesting place to visit. It is approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Kardzali and offers a diverse range of things to see and do, including Plovdiv Amphitheatre, Plovdiv Stadium and Saint Marina Church. If you're still looking for things to do, it's worth investigating Ivan Vazov National Library of Bulgaria, Aliosha Monument and Plovdiv International Fair Grounds before heading back to Kardzali.
The most rewarding places for travelers to visit when they arrive in a new destination are the spots that provide a picture of the local culture. Don't miss Bulgaria's history museums. If the weather looks good, head outside to explore Bulgaria's street art.
When the sun is shining, follow the locals and head to Bulgaria's waterways for a morning of swimming or canoeing. The Bulgaria area offers a number of relaxing pursuits. Spend a few hours sunbathing or bird watching and feel your worries drift away.
As the sun sets on your adventures, spend what's left of your levs on last-minute keepsakes and bid a fond Doviždane (farewell) to the local characters you have met and the spots you've been.
