Great location in the center of Jaco. The house that I rented was very spacious, clean, and had modern furnishings. Would highly recommend.

The hotel, for the cost, is not worth it in my opinion. The property itself is okay. Unfortunately for me there were more cons than pros. Pros: Clean, within walking distance to the beach, near lots of restaurants & shops. AC worked really well. The TV was fine. I liked how they had a small kitchenette with some plates, bowls, & silverware. Secure On-site parking (kind of see below). Cons: We were put in #8, which is at the very end of the property. The wifi didn’t work when everyone was using it. It worked fine at 5am. That was bad for us because it was the only way I could find things to do in the area. I had to walk closer to the office to get a good signal. The room: There was an opening under the door & we had several large red ants rooming the room. I reserved a king size bed with a trundle & we got a double with a trundle. I didn’t mind the double but there wasn’t a pillow or blanket for the trundle. There were only two large towels. No hand towels or anything to dry our hands with after washing them. There was a safe in the room but it didn’t work. As far as the rest of the property, the swimming pool was mediocre & when it got dark, you couldn’t swim because there were no lights in the pool. As for the parking, there was a gate that is locked with actual hand locks. They gave us a key to open and close the gates manually. When we got back from dinner, there were no parking spots. They had me park behind another car, which made me very uncomfortable.

I called prior to booking to make sure the location was okay for a single female travelling and not in a dangerous location. This particular hotel is a four minute trek down an alley off the Main Street which is full of hookers and drug addicts. The people from Costa Rica were not friendly at all and in fact I constantly felt like I was being scoped out for robbery. I will never return to Costa Rica and especially Jaco. This was very sketchy for a single female. Sufficed to say; I was stuck in my room by 6 pm each night. My trip here was the biggest waste of money I had ever incurred.

Gate for parked vehicles was nice. Proximity to the beach was adequate. The room; with ants (everywhere, not the typical amount... everywhere... carrying food) on the bed/walls/floor, drilled out safe and exterior door gaps (2” at the base when closed, tapering to shut around the deadbolt) between the door and jamb - ended the stay for us. After the fumigating of the ants, getting a new bedspread (sheets/pillowcases) took an act of Congress. Minor exaggeration is all. Staff was cordial and professional for the most part. Spend the extra $60 and stay with Best in Jaco Condominiums. We booked them the day we arrived at Tropical and kicked ourselves for not doing so beforehand.
