Their gardens are magical and their rooms are super modern, clean and authentic to traditional ryokans. Loved our stay and loved the proximity to Shuzenji’s main village. The staff are all extremely kind and accommodating (they do not speak English, so google translator is a must if you’re foreign and they are quick to use it) The traditional breakfast was great, with many small dishes that leave you satisfied but not full to start your day. The property itself is gorgeous, and the staff was kind and attentive, but the place definitely had a noticeable mildew smell, which took away from the experience a bit. Unfortunately, we missed out on both breakfast and dinner because we didn’t book those in advance (lesson learned). I tried reaching out 24 hours before check-in but never got a response, so just a heads-up to plan meals ahead of time. There’s also not much nearby that’s open for breakfast or dinner, which left us scrambling a bit. It was a calm place, somewhere to relax and recharge. The breakfasts were exquisite. No dinner on offer during my stay (2nights) but the recommended restaurant (sushi restaurant) was very special. The town was quiet and very calm and if you're prepared to walk a little (taxi or bus it if not), there are great views of Mt Fuji San to be had.
