Check in is not well explained beforehand. One reception desk for 4 different hotels. Clever concept but mighty confusing if you are just off a long flight or like us a very long car ride in the heat ( 41°) Once we did figure it out, with the help of some helpful members of staff, the bedroom was tiny. 2 adults, 2 suitcases and hand luggage. Google Maps took us 10mins drive away from the airport to a drop in centre, which felt quite unsafe at midnight when our plane landed. Apple Maps correctly shows the location as being the same place as the Mecure and Novotel, right at the airport. There are NO SIGNS for the Ibis - you have to go to the Novotel/Mecure reception to check in. After we finally found the hotel, things picked up. The Novotel, Mecure, and Ibis all share the grounds and I guess the difference is the rooms themselves. Ours smelled musty and was pretty small (I barely fit between the bed and the wall) but it was fine for our purposes - we were only in Darwin for 24hrs. The airconditioning was excellent. The hotel breakfast was definitely not worth $30 but it was convenient to grab a bite to eat before heading out for the day. The bar area near the pool was very nice, with separate smoking and no smoking areas and good service. We got slushies to cool down in the Darwin heat.
