Have stayed there before - pre Covid. Very helpful owner, Brian, gives you the freedom of the place and its facilities. Kitchen is well stocked with a variety of breakfast foods. It's just like a home from home.
This is an amazing B&B that you can use as a base for exploring Hadrian's Wall. Brain & Gill are great hosts. The room is great with a kettle, tea and coffee. Breakfast is self-service, and you have a nice selection of cereals, fruit, juice, milk, bread, coffee, and tea. All that you need to get started. You can use the kitchen later in the day if you want to cook your own meals instead of the outside option. Fully recommend.
Brian, the owner, shared so much information with us about Hadrian’s Wall and the surrounding area. He was a delightful raconteur. He even drove us to Hadrian’s Wall himself in order to help us out. His advice about where to go was spot on and made our day wonderful. Even though we had checked out, he let us store our bags at the B&B. The hotel itself was extremely convenient and close to the train station. The view of the river was lovely. I would highly recommend this spot if you come to Northumberland!
The Reading Rooms is an excellent place to stay. The host is friendly and hospitable; and the property is spotlessly clean throughout. I would definitely stay here again… and highly recommend The Reading Rooms without hesitation.
Well situated for a visit to the Wall and Roman remains, this was a very pleasant stay. Very quiet - surprisingly so, for its placement on a corner. Brian recommended The Havelock for dinner, and it was delicious!
Great welcome, great location, clean rooms and kitchen/dining area. Good food recommendation for the pub opposite.
Just be aware that there are limited food options in town on a Wednesday evening (although the fish and chips were great), if you want something more you'll have to travel.
Such a delight to stay here! Room was spacious and bright and clean and comfy!! The host was very welcoming and knowledgeable. He had us giggling right away. Loved it!! The area was very pretty and we found all we needed nearby.
We loved our stay at the Reading Rooms. Brian, one of the hosts, went out of his way to accommodate us. The room was lovely, homey, and spotless. The kitchen and laundry rooms were clean and available and the location couldn't be better. We would return anytime we are in the area. We highly recommend The Reading Rooms.
This is a great place in a pleasant village, nice spacious room, with plenty free street parking. Decent free wifi and good local amenities, nice greeting by one of the owners, Brian, who offered the facilities of the kitchen at my disposal, very much appreciated. If i was going to be picky, the numerous spiders in the hallway could be cleared out (i have a phobia) and the towels in the shower would benefit from being bigger and softer, you can make tea/coffee in your room but had to go downstairs to the kitchen fridge for the milk, but these are small things that wouldnt stop me from staying again.
The Reading Rooms are a great base for any visit to this part of England. We have used them for easy access to the Hadrian’s Wall forts but our favourite is to walk the 5 minutes to the railway station in Haydon Bridge and jump on a train into Hexham (10 mins). Haydon Bridge is a lovely, friendly small town on the banks of the South Tyne. Brian (the host) always gives visitors a warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble in helping to make the stay enjoyable. We enjoy the freedom that the Reading Rooms give in that it is a relatively small B&B and that the kitchen and dining room are always available to visitors. The use of allocated space in the fridge is also a bonus for us as we love taking picnics out with us and we’re able to store our groceries for the weekend (and keep the wine chilled!). This was our second visit to the Reading Rooms and we will certainly be back again in the not too distant future.
Excellent room, very clean and tidy, the host is a fellow biker so lots to talk about. It is a very friendly place and nothing is too much trouble. Definitely recommend this place, easy to find and a great area. Had a good stay, many thanks.
The room was clean and modern. It was very quiet at night. If you're walking Hadrian's wall, a stay here comes with some thoughtful touches. They have a drying closet with a radiator inside for wet clothes and boots, additionally, the room I stayed in had a boot tray. Brian is a very gracious host.
Spacious comfortable rooms with everything you may need for an overnight stay. Owner was super helpful with bike storage and his explanations of the property and facilities were short and to the point. Common area had basic breakfast items which were more then enough to see you through to lunchtime. Also an extensive library of all things Hadrian's Wall related. No hesitation in recommending.
This is a great B & B. Beautifully appointed and decorated and very, very clean. Shower excellent with lots of hot water. The heating was very good during the chilly evenings. First evening it would not work but the owner arrived within minutes and sorted the issue. The owner was welcoming and helpful. Loved the help yourself breakfast. Plentiful supply of tea and coffee.
The location is great. The river is just over the road with great walks. Buses go from nearby to Newcastle and Carlisle and stops in between. A good hourly service. The station is a short walk along the road.
Parking is on the street. I was always able to park although on one occasion had to be patient but only for a few minutes before a space became available. I would definitely stay hear again if I am in the area.
