Meal ordering was haphazard. I ordered a starter of soup but it did not arrive. I asked for a glass of water to go with my meal; I was asked if I wanted ice, I said yes please but was given a small glass of tepid water with no ice, on one of the hottest days of the year. At breakfast, I took some Bran Flakes but when I got to my table and started to eat them, I found there were nut flakes in them. I am allergic to nuts. There was no warning on the Bran Flake dispenser that nuts had been added. Also, the cooked breakfast consisted of a very small hash brown; one and a half small mushrooms, half a rasher of bacon, an adequate sausage and a fried egg, which was going cold by the time it arrived (also most hotels these days ask if you if want fried, scrambled, poached etc). Staff were lovely and breakfast wasn’t bad. Unfortunately, this was by far the worst hotel experience of my life. As soon as I entered the hotel, I was gobsmacked by the horrible smell of the lobby. The carpet looked like it has never been cleaned. An elderly woman was struggling walking down the stairs as they had no lift. Nothing wrong with not having an elevator, but this should be noted prominently on the website in case anyone with physical limitations will know this before booking. I had room number 8\. I go into the room and was perplexed that there was no bathroom/toilet/shower. I asked the staff person, (friendly and helpful)… where is the bathroom? She explained for that room, it is across the hall. Talk about a major inconvenience! I went down to the bar/restaurant to ask about any vegan options. This area had the same horrible smell and filthy environment. I knew right then I would do a take-away and eat in my room. There wasn’t anything on the menu I could have which was bizarre because their online menu had several options for vegans. (This was one of the reasons why I booked this place.) Anyhow, I asked the staff person if the chef could prepare something suitable for me. The answer… go to the local Co-Op, buy something vegan and the chef would prepare a vegan meal! Considering it's 1st March they didn't put the heating on, the room was freezing all night,even in the dining room this morning there was only a tiny blow heater on,considering there was a stove in the room.
