Getasan is a tourist region located in the Central Java province of the Indonesian island of Java. It is surrounded by a mountainous landscape swathed in lush rainforest, volcanoes and waterfalls. Join multiday treks to the volcano’s two peaks, 10,318-foot-tall (3,145-metre) Kenteng Songo and 10,233-foot-tall (3,119-metre) Syarif. Trekking routes start from the villages of Kopeng to the north and Selo in the southern foothills. While in Kopeng, challenge your agility on the rope swings and suspended bridges of Kopeng Treetop Adventure Park. Have fun with the family at the Taman Wisata Kopeng waterpark. Go to the village of Ketep and enjoy the immaculate panoramas from the Ketep Pass lookout. Simultaneously view Mount Merbabu and the active volcano Mount Merapi in addition to the lush countryside. Another interesting place to visit is Kali Pancur Waterfall in Nogosaren. Walk deep down into a ravine via more than 800 stone steps and then gaze up at the towering cascade. Getasan is a short drive from many other popular tourist spots in Central Java. To the north is the busy hill town of Ambarawa. See a collection of vintage steam locomotives at the Ambarawa Railway Museum. Admire the Javanese-Hindu architecture of Gedong Songo Temple, a complex of 8th-century temples and shrines. Relax during a boat tour on the calm waters of Rawa Pening Lake. From Yogyakarta Getasan is about a 2-hour drive and a 90-minute drive from Sermarang. The closest major airport is Yogyakarta’s Adisucipto International Airport. It receives flights from Bali, Bandung and Jakarta plus Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
