This is my favorite hotel. I land on the way in and on the way out. There are beautiful hotels, and then there are hotels that become part of your relationship with a city. For me, the Esplanade is Zagreb.
Every time I return, there is an immediate feeling of being somewhere special and familiar. The history, architecture, rooms, food, and incredible location are all exceptional, but it is the people who make this hotel what it is. The warmth and genuine Croatian hospitality never feel scripted. You feel welcomed, remembered, and cared for.
I have been fortunate to stay at some of the best luxury hotels around the world, and the Esplanade continues to hold its own among them. There is an old-world elegance here that is increasingly difficult to find—grand and sophisticated, but still deeply personal.
Croatia is very special to me, and returning to Zagreb always carries meaning. Having the Esplanade be part of that experience makes it even more memorable.
This isn’t simply a hotel I recommend. It’s a hotel I genuinely love returning to, and one that feels inseparable from Zagreb itself. An icon, and deservedly so.
