The furnishings, antiques and attention to detail make you feel like you just don't want to be anywhere else. But the best part was the graciousness of hosts Paul and Brenden. Absolute gentlemen who made me feel at home in those sumptuous surroundings. Paul was so helpful with directions before I arrived, and Brenden cooked up a wonderful breakfast which was just what I needed before boarding the Spirit back to Geelong. Staying at The Grand is like taking a step back in time. The facilities are superbly renovated and the old charm of early Australia has been retained throughout the property. The property is conveniently located a short walk into town where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. I highly recommend The Grand on Macfie to anyone stopping in Devonport. Breakfast was included in the price but as I was leaving at 7am I thought I’d miss out. But no. They opened the kitchen at 6 am for those of us catching the ferry. Our room had an incredible sea view overlooking the terminal where the Spirit of Tasmania docks. Stunning! The owners have also created beautiful sitting rooms where guests can sit with a quiet beverage. The room had a 4 poster bed, the furnishings were beautiful and the whole experience exuded comfort, elegance and style. We explained to Paul and Brenden that we may have to miss our first breakfast due to an early start the next morning and then Brenden insisted he would start breakfast early to make sure we travelled with a full belly its little things like this that really made our stay.
