We arranged late check-in with Helen who left our room key at the front door. Communication via sms was great. The town centre is a quick walk away and Coles shopping is nearby. Daylesford is enchanting and a walk around the lake is a must-do. The Manse has lovely gardens, off-street parking, and our room was beautifully decorated. We found, however, that the gorgeous furniture came at the expense of practicality. Breakfast was included but almost no space for preparation. The spectacular clawfoot bathtub had a shower hose that, when used, would spray water everywhere. There were no bedside tables. The bed faced a stunning stained glass window but there was no way to cover it and light flooded in day and night making it difficult to sleep. The kitchen sink and fridge was inside a beautiful cupboard but there was no room to stack dishes. The toilet was enclosed in a Victorian-style wooden box which was quaint but cold and uncomfortable to sit on. There was no space for our luggage. The verandah was lovely but there was an ashtray full of cigarette butts next to the table. We would say this room was very much "style over substance" and we were disappointed that a room so beautifully decorated could be so impractical.
