The property was built in 2011 in one of the most the scenic locations in Cowal. Interior Bright, spacious and light Shellduck Cottage has been warmly decorated to create a welcoming home from home. The ground floor features a large living space, and an inviting sunroom with double doors leading onto a deck area with views over the loch – perfect for an alfresco breakfast or an evening drink to soak up the setting. The living areas all enjoy stunning window views finished with and a cosy wood burning fire and central heating. Perfect for all seasons. There’s a well-equipped kitchen and dining area enjoy views and leads to a utility room, shower room and another outside door, serviced by a ramp for wheelchairs. All three bedrooms have their own ensuite bathroom with bath tub. There are two twin bedrooms downstairs, one can be converted to a double. The first floor has a double room that boasts stunning views down the loch and beyond, featuring a spacious pamper bathroom. There is a large landing with a sofa bed or it can be a quiet space for reading or enjoying the loch views. Explore The manicured garden is filled with roses and flowers in spring and summer, this area is fenced, so is safe for children to play in. Easy access to the Ferries to Bute/ Tarbert and Dunoon ..Andrew , our host was very helpful and made our stay memorable.We used a wheelchair and his concrete ramp was ideal for entering and leaving this spacious property. This property is in a perfect location for exploring Argyll, an hour from Loch lomond, a short drive from Dunoon and the botanical gardens. There are also some beautiful beaches nearby at Kilbride Bay (even in the rain). The house itself is spacious and well kept with all the amenities you could need. It's well furnished and serviced. The hosts next door are very helpful and welcoming, and although we didn't use, the open wood stock and honesty style freezer are great touches. My only suggestion for an improvement would be a comfier mattress in the master bedroom, but it certainly wouldn't stop us returning again for a lovely visit! ##### Stephanie N. Our host Andrew welcomed us personally and made us feel like his guest, help and advice available if needed. The location provided a base to explore the local area and a tranquil place to retreat to at night. Dunoon down the road provided great food and a relaxing promenade. Lovely looking cottage, nice enclosed garden and lots of room. Ideal, quiet location. Helpful host. Slight downside in that the three armchairs are VERY old, stained and definitely need replacing or should have throws to cover them. The iron ( which leaks badly ) and hairdryer haven't been PAT tested for two years, which needs addressing as both are ( again ) old items showing their age. There were lots of places within a short drive to keep us happy, but we also enjoyed getting the little ferry to Bute and going further afield up to Inverary, then down to Tarbert and getting the ferry back from there. There's a little Marina opposite which is a nice place for a drink and a snack. Our favourite spot in the cottage was the sun room, looking out at the lovely garden and watching the many variety of birds. We had a bit of difficulty accessing WiFi, but that didn't bother us much. The cottage is located in a picturesque spot at the head of loch Riddon. The house was clean with adequate facilities ,a well equiped kitchen , comfy beds ,with the woodburning fire making the evenings nice and cosy , with the views from the windows looking onto the loch, delightful, The decked terrace lends itself to barbecues and quiet evening drinks-- this house has a lovely ambience. The cottage was lovely, very clean & welcoming. It had everything we could have wanred including cot & high chair for our 6 month old granddaughter & unlimited logs for the fabulous log fire. The surrounding area is stunning with plenty walks for our dogs. Andrew & Sheila were perfect hosts who gave us our pivicy but were also on hand if needed! Very warm and it had everything we needed for a family holiday. On arrival, my elderly mother opened the fridge door and it fell off and hit her on the head. The owner sourced a replacement fridge, but I had to help him shift it, and although he apologised, he showed no empathy or concern for my mum. Two of the downstairs toilets were dodgy too. The cisterns wouldn't fill without removing the lid and fiddling with the strange mechanism. This situation created stress in my mother and lessened her enjoyment of the holiday. The owner got a plumber out but the issue was not resolved. The beds. The beds were bloody awful. My wife and I had the upstairs bedroom and the bed was the worst. We were both rolling into the middle and it felt as though the mattress was full of coathangers. But, all that being said, we had a good time. There were lots of positives, the kitchen had everything and a decent cooker, the wood burner was first class, a decent TV, not that we watched it much and as I said earlier, it's in a beautiful place. ##### Jonathan H. Sep 22, 2020 #### Room with a view Shelduck cottage is situated at the end of the loch with lovely views. It has a large enclosed garden. The cottage was comfortable and we enjoyed having the log burner on in the evenings. The kitchen was basically equipped with one set of cutlery, one bowl, one plate etc per person ( covid regulations) . The frying pan was really no use at all and one of the saucepan lids was broken and quite dangerous. We also had to take our own towels which we have never had to do in other self catering establishments. The nearest shop is in Tighnabruaich which is a 15 minute drive away. ##### Sharon C. I know you don't go to watch television but when the weather is not to good and you have small children you need somethig of a decent size to watch . But you can get over that and overall we were very pleased with the cottage and I would recomend it for your holiday as it is in a beautiful area and the cottage had fantastic views from most of the windows and had a nice enclosed garden.I just wish it had been in better times and not throughout the restrictions with covid 19. ##### Elaine A. Oct 20, 2019 #### Peaceful Rural Getaway We had a short stay here recently - but the tranquility and peace of the cottage made it a very refreshing break! The views of the top of the Loch ( especially from upstairs) are gorgeous and it is fantastic to stop and listen to the silence, only broken by the occasional Oystercatcher. At night you can hear owls calling to each other and see the stars. It's not totally remote, but in fact is situated on the roadside in a great position where you can head off in different directions to explore different parts of Argyll. The cottage is warm and comfortable - it has enough things that you need for a rural get-away. The water pressure is superb so you can have a wonderful shower after your walk! It was very clean and the wood-burning stove had been made up in readiness for a cosy night in, with plenty of logs to top-up with. There are various excellent establishments within driving distance and of course amazing views everywhere. There is so much to do in the area so if you are visiting to explore and have an adventure, make sure you plan ahead. Andrew Barker is very friendly and helpful and excellent at communicating, so the check-in/out was very smooth and he is on hand for any queries. We are hoping to return when we can! ##### Sarah K. Wonderful location, glorious views, very warm, lovely bedrooms/bathrooms. Downstairs could have been cleaner perhaps; chairs in the room are very tired (in need of replacement?), and the TV is tiny for such a big room - you of course don’t go on holiday to Scotland to watch TV but on an evening in the middle of nowhere it helps (also one of the family was recovering from hospital so was limited for walking etc.).
