Finchale Abbey, first floor apartment within an historic 11th Century Farmhouse.

  • Une superbe propriété dans une ferme du 11ème siècle, cet appartement du premier étage a été récemment modernisé à un niveau élevé, tout en respectant les directives strictes en vigueur lors de la restauration d'une propriété classée.

    La propriété dispose de trois chambres et deux salles de bains ainsi que d'une cuisine joliment équipée et d'un grand salon.

    La cuisine sur mesure faite à la main en chêne a des appareils entièrement intégrés avec cuisinière à gaz, four à micro-ondes, lave-vaisselle, lave-linge et réfrigérateur-congélateur.

    La chambre principale a un lit queen size et une vue sur le prieuré.

    Deuxième chambre lits jumeaux simples.

    La troisième chambre a un lit double fait sur mesure à la main surélevé et un lit simple supplémentaire.

    Toutes les chambres bénéficient de baies vitrées permettant de profiter de la magnifique vue.

    Le salon est une pièce magnifique avec des fenêtres à guillotine sur trois côtés et la table à manger hexagonale sur mesure se trouve dans la baie vitrée offrant une vue sur la rivière. (Cette baie vitrée à guillotine contient encore le verre d'origine. Au cours de la rénovation, celle-ci a été protégée par English Heritage et rénovée.) La chambre dispose d'une télévision avec Sky et d'un lecteur DVD.

    La salle de bains familiale comprend une baignoire d'angle, une douche double, des toilettes et un lavabo avec vue sur le prieuré et la rivière.

    Il y a aussi un WC séparé.

    La propriété dispose du chauffage central avec des radiateurs en fonte traditionnels.

    Wifi gratuit est disponible pour une utilisation pendant votre séjour.


    Les propriétaires de la propriété possèdent des droits de pêche sur une étendue de deux milles de la rivière Wear, une rivière de choix pour le saumon et la truite brune, et les visiteurs de la propriété sont invités à pêcher dans la rivière pendant leur séjour. (Les licences de canne de l'agence de l'environnement doivent être détenues.)

    Nous conseillons aux enfants de plus de neuf ans uniquement en raison de la proximité du fleuve.

Relaxing get-a-way

Family went from being worried about being 5 minutes out of town to fully enjoying listening to the river and watching the ducks. Out of the five places we stayed over a two weeks holiday, this is by far everyone's favorite. The floors are a little uneven and the mobile network connection not perfect but everything else you could imagine about the place was amazing.

Beautifully renovated apartment in a really special setting

Finchale is such a beautiful place, next to the priory ruins in a bend of the river Wear - amazing views across the river, or from the far bank to the priory. The big sitting room has views of the river on three sides, and is a really comfortable and relaxing room. There's a well-provided kitchen and generous modern bathroom (and separate WC). Bedrooms are very restful too - I would say the high sleeper in the third bedroom is best suited to the younger (under 50 at any rate) and/or more agile, but a great night's sleep once you get up there! There are steps between levels but my blind and nearly-90-year-old mother managed without difficulty, and also loved the place.The apartment is wonderfully warm and cosy, and you fall asleep to the sound of the river and occasional owls - such a treat. It was an amazing place to spend Christmas, and within easy reach of Durham where our daughter was singing at the Cathedral. Ann was a super welcoming and helpful host. We could not have been happier.

Location is great

Location is fabulous especially to be able to walk your dog nearby in the picnic field and nearby. The apartment is very much as per the photos and very scenic views from all windows.

Simply Wonderful from Start to Finish

Convenient to so much of the North and our nearby family, we highly recommend this property and look forward to visiting again. The apartment is spacious and charming, easily and comfortably accommodating my extended family of seven. The kitchen is more than adequate to self-cater. The bedrooms are numerous and comfortable. The living room is well appointed and full of artifacts of history of the place. The only drawbacks are the lack of a second shower, and the spotty access to cellular for US-based phones—the later contributing to the relaxing mood of the place. But the grounds! My wife and mother-in-law grew up visiting the ruined abbey adjacent to the apartment, and having the opportunity to share that experience with my young son was truly special. We spent our days exploring the abbey, learning about monastic life, visiting the river, and exploring nearby Cocken Wood. The park is so extensive that we didn’t even find the picnic ground until the last day of our ten day stay, and wished that we had more time to avail ourselves of it. Next time. Special thanks to Ann, Jack, and Irene for taking such good care of us!

Stunning setting, very comfortable property

The apartment is in a stunning setting. Don't be put off by the fact this is in a caravan park, the two are separate and every window in the property has a lovely view. We spent much of one day just walking by the river and enjoying the scenery. The apartment is very well appointed with good quality fittings and has everything you need. Unlike many properties, there is ample seating for everyone, both at the tables and in the spacious sitting room. Ann was incredibly helpful. We made full use of the discounts offered into Beamish and enjoyed all the welcome goodies. Just be aware that, being an old property, not everything is on the level so you just have to be aware of the odd step in and out of rooms. We would highly recommend this property. We only stayed for three nights, but it would make an excellent base for a much longer stay.

Absolutely stunning location. Excellent decor. Fully equipped, beautifully furnished. Warm welcome. Friendly, helpful owners and staff. Quality accommodation with easy access to major North East towns and tourist attractions.
