The hallways smelt like a very strong paint smell and there was construction dust on the floors in front of our room. The room was large and clean, but the air conditioning doesn't budge and we woke up sweating. No one speaks any English so it was difficult to tell them that our toilet had clogged, but they sent someone up and they sent for a maintenance man. Don't forget to ask for your 200 RMB deposit back because they will not remind you at checkout. For China, the bed was extremely comfortable. It was not incredibly hard like most beds in China. The breakfast was mediocre at best. The location, for me, was not convenient at all. No access to subway. The staff was friendly but English was poor or non-existent. For an American hotel chain, I expected better English. I did my best to use my little Chinese, but overall communication was difficult. Additionally, the hotel had no resources. For example, I asked for a map of the city or local area. They didn't have one, which is very poor for a hotel. There was very strong smell on third floor which was cafe area. I select to pay at the hotel. But the currency exchange rate was not very nice to me. I like the simple design. It generally meets the western standard but some details can be improved. The beds in standard room are on the small size. Not at all holiday inn express type. Since you arrive you get the feeling you made a mistake. The price charged was very high for the area, you could book something similar for less than half, without holiday inn brand of course. Even the internet service was bad, necessary for a business hotel.
