It has two entrances : one to the north side towards the Avenue du Chemin Blanc, the other to the south behind the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville. This view is from the north entrance. On its north and west sides there are remains of the old town's fortifications, with a tower at the north-west corner (visible from the Avenue du Chemin Blanc). These remnants of fortifications include here two towers and their curtain wall, with part of the chemin de ronde and some crenels. The red gate leading downtown is immediately after the tower on the right The tower on the left still shows the holes in which were set the beams supporting a floor. Their height, or lack thereof, tells that the actual ground of the inner courtyard was quite a way deeper than it is now.
