About this property

Hook, Wine & Sinker Cottage: Water Views, Kayaks, Bikes & Old Florida Charm

  • Slow down, settle in, and enjoy Cedar Key the way it was meant to be enjoyed. Hook, Wine & Sinker Cottage is a cozy island hideaway tucked into a quiet residential circle, surrounded by live oaks, palms, birdsong, and water views. Perched on a shell mound with access to the water, this is the kind of place where mornings start with Cedar Key Coffee on the deck, afternoons are spent kayaking through the islands, and evenings end with a glass of wine while the sky turns pink over the Gulf.

The wraparound deck is one of the stars of the home, with beautiful views of the water, gorgeous sunsets, and a front-row seat to Cedar Key’s wildlife. Keep an eye out for osprey, egrets, pelicans, cardinals, chickadees, and the many other birds that make this quiet corner of the island feel so special.

Inside, the cottage is full of character. Warm wood walls, local artwork, coastal details, and comfortable furnishings give the home an easy, lived-in island feel. The living room has new smart TVs, a Bose stereo system, cushy recliners for afternoon naps, games for laid-back nights in, and a queen sleeper sofa that converts the space into a comfortable second sleeping area. Privacy partitions and darkening shades help make the living room feel more like a true second bedroom when needed.

The upstairs bedroom has a queen bed and a cozy cottage feel, making the home a great fit for a couple, small family, or up to four guests. With two bathrooms, a full-size washer and dryer, and plenty of thoughtful extras, the cottage is set up for both short getaways and longer stays. Please note the bedroom upstairs accessed is via a spiral staircase.

The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook at home, including cookware, dishes, spices, and the little things that make vacation meals easier. Make breakfast before heading out on the water, pack a picnic for the islands, or cook up your fresh catch after a day of fishing.

The office area includes a color printer, making it easy to work remotely, print a boarding pass, or take care of the occasional real-world task before getting back to island time.

Outdoors, the fun is built right in. Kayaks are provided so you can launch from the property and explore the surrounding waters and nearby islands. Bikes are also available for cruising around town, visiting Cemetery Point Park, heading to Dock Street, or pedaling over for lunch, shops, drinks, and live music.

And location matters here. Hook, Wine & Sinker is within walking distance of Low Key Hideaway Tiki Bar, a favorite local stop for cocktails, sunsets, and casual island vibes. Try their famous Bloody Mary, and don’t miss the variety of food trucks while you’re there.

Cedar Key itself is one of Florida’s true Old Florida towns. Long before it became a quiet getaway, the Cedar Keys were used by First Peoples as coastal fish camps, and the surrounding islands are now part of the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge protects 13 islands and is known for its incredible birdlife, including pelicans, egrets, ibis, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills. Nearby Shell Mound, part of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge area, adds another layer of local history and is a favorite spot for walking, nature, and quiet exploring.

Some favorite ways to spend your stay:

~Sip coffee on the deck while the island wakes up.
~Launch the kayaks and picnic on a nearby island.
~Bring your fishing gear and try for redfish.
~Bike to Dock Street for shops, restaurants, and waterfront views.
~Explore Cemetery Point Park or the Dennis Creek Trail.
~Drive the Lower Suwannee Refuge nature loop and watch for alligators, birds, and wildlife.
    ~Catch live music around town.
~End the day with wine on the deck and a Cedar Key sunset.

Hook, Wine & Sinker is pet friendly and welcomes one dog with your stay. We simply ask that you pick up after your pup and help us keep the property comfortable for the next guests.

This is a one-of-a-kind Cedar Key cottage: peaceful, comfortable, full of personality, and perfectly suited for guests who want water views, nature, kayaks, bikes, and a real taste of island life.

Great place!

Used the Yaks, Bikes, etc. Enjoyed the quiet and seclusion as none of the surrounding properties were occupied. Great eclectic artwork and nautical themed nick-nacks. We loved it. The style of the place and manner of decor remind me of our former property we jad listed on VRBO for years.

Awesome home’

Everything about this home was perfect! Everything they provided was first class from the Maytag washer and dryer to the comfy bed upstairs! The view of the water was beautiful! The spiral staircase was not a problem and we’re both in our seventies! Walking to the Tiki Bar was a real treat and so much fun! We will visit again!

The Good and the Bad ...

The Good: 1. Well-appointed property especially the kitchen. 2. WiFi worked flawlessly as it was used daily for at least two hours. 3. Very clean. The Bad: 1. Queen bed needs replacing, mattress sinks in the middle, not good for two slender adults. 2. Television did not work in family room ... no signal, even though I tried everything, including rebooting the receiver. 3. One bike had a flat tire. As an aside, be prepared to navigate the spiral staircase. Not for the faint of heart as it's like a ladder!

Not for seniors

As noted in the reviews, the circular staircase is formidable. Narrow in design and very difficult to get luggage upstairs. Our dog could not climb the stairs so I slept downstairs (very firm king pull out) and hubby slept upstairs, comfortable bed. Most of the Cedar Key hiking trails are closed due to the hurricane, and we were disappointed that the shell mound is closed and not accessible. We enjoyed sitting on the back deck and taking a boat trip over to the original Cedar Key Island. They drop you off and pick you up two hours later. We bushwhacked and found the graveyard from the beginning of the last century. It is a 5 minute walk to the cool and funky Tiki Bar. Do bring your food as the closest grocery store is in Chiefland. So sorry for the huge amount damage done by the storm. This house is in very good condition and escaped unscathed,
