During your stay we will be available for any request or necessity you may have, or to advise you concerning places to visit or tailor-made itineraries. We speak English and Italian. We also organise wine-tasting tours, chocolate-tasting tours, pecorino-tastings tours, cooking classes, our most famous Pizza Chef workshop, dinners and lunches at the villa with private chef, etc.. Villa Colombai is a luxury property in Tuscany, more than 100 years old. Villa Colombai is located in the village of Orentano, in a borough named Colombai, only 18km away from Lucca. The villa has been thoroughly restored and equipped with an elegant swimming pool, entirely lined with authentic “travertine” stone, filled with salt water and recently (2019) equipped with a new heating system that let the water reach a temperature of 28° C (82,40° F) with an air temperature of 5° C (41° F). Moreover it has a pleasant whirlpool area on one side, amusing and refreshing. The luxury swimming pool measures 12 x 6 m, and varies from 1,10 m to 1,60 m of depth. By the pool there is an external warm shower to wash off the salt as soon as you come out of the pool. Around the pool there are parasols, deck chairs, sun beds and tables to sunbathe, relax and read. You can also have fun playing table tennis, table football or soccer in the field equipped with goals that is part of the large enclosed property of Villa Colombai. There is a playground area for small children in the garden. In 2016 we equipped the Villa with a traditional firewood oven near the solarium where our famous Pizza Chef Workshop takes place and a half bathroom. Near the kitchen there is a wonderful very large veranda with a large travertine table and chairs, where you can sit, eat together, read or play cards after dinner. The veranda roof is made of wood and the barbecue will make your evenings unique. The garden is very large (12.000 sq.mt.), always well keept and totally fenced to guarantee your privacy and safety, especially of your children and family pets. The villa is equipped with every comfort. There is a hi-speed internet Wi-Fi connection, both inside and outside the villa and there is an alarm system. The walls of our hundred-year-old villa are very thick so the temperature is pleasant in the rooms, however all six rooms in Villa Colombai have an advanced air comfort cooling and heating system (Daikin). The entrance of the villa is on the ground floor and hosts a library which also contains maps, guide books and other useful information. The spacious lounge on the ground floor has three large sofas and ultra-modern 40” TV screen, full HD, Digital terrestrial television, Satellite television and CD-DVD players. The dining room on the ground floor has a table which can be extended up to 10 metres in length to comfortably seat 12 people (with a fireplace and easy access to garden and pool). On the ground floor there is the kitchen with a fireplace which can also be used as a barbecue. The kitchen is fully equipped with crockery and tableware of all sorts, cutlery, saucepans, frying pans and modern domestic appliances: a big refrigerator, a freezer, dishwasher, gas cooker, electric oven, microwave oven, electric kettle, toaster, blender, American coffee making machine (electric), “Lavazza” espresso machine (electric) and a traditional Italian coffee maker (“Moka” for use on a gas stove). Easy access from the kitchen on to the veranda with seating, tables and open air barbecue. On the ground floor there is also a full bathroom. You’ll also find a launderette area (with sink, washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board) On the first floor, you’ll find: \- The “Venus” suite: an elegant bed chamber and suite with a king size four-poster bed, a walk-in wardrobe and its own private bathroom with an original new (2019) Jacuzzi, twin hand basins, WC and bidet \- The “Bacchus” room: bedroom with king size bed and wall wardrobe \-The “Juno” room: bedroom with two single beds which can be joined to make a double bed \- An elegant blue bathroom with bathtub, WC, bidet and hand basin On the second floor, you'll find: \- The “Concordia” room: bedroom with two single beds, wardrobe and chest of drawers \- The “Diana” room: very large bedroom with a king size bed, wooden cots for babies and infants with extra single bed if desired and a full new (2020) bathroom \- The “Attic” room: bedroom with wardrobe and two single beds which can be joined to make a double bed or if desired, to be turned into a living room with sofas \- A full bathroom with WC, bidet, shower and hand basin The villa has been furnished very elegantly, accurately and with great attention to every detail. There are terracotta tiled floors, beamed ceilings, walls painted in pastel colours and frescos in several parts of the house, as well as mosquito nets at all windows. There is a large car park for several cars within the property just behind the villa. Villa Colombai is the perfect location to visit the main attractions of Tuscany, but at the same time guests can relax spending time around the luxury pool with whirlpool, in the very large garden, or in the beautiful veranda next to the barbecue and the kitchen. Small children can play in the playground especially made for them, and bigger children can play table tennis or soccer in the field that is also part of the property. Within easy reach of the Villa there are grocery stores, cafes, a butcher and a traditional baker. There is also a well-known pastry shop still following an old tradition of pastry making. In Orentano you will also find the Trattoria-Pizzeria da Benito, one of the most famous restaurants of the area. Their absolute specialty is the typical very thick grilled Tuscan steak, absolutely delicious at an affordable price, but they also serve traditional starters, pasta dishes and pizza. Remember to reserve a table in advance because the restaurant is always fully booked. Within 15 km distance there are also a golf course, thermal resorts, tennis courts and many other activities. Guided wine-tasting tours can be arranged for you, as well as any other activity you might be interested in. We can arrange visits to artisan ceramic or copper pot workshops, we can reserve concert or theatre tickets for you, etc… according to your interests. We can also organize your wedding, anniversary, birthday party or other events and take care of all the details. Here at Villa Colombai you can enjoy the wine and the olive oil produced not far from the villa or the typical food of our area – we can arrange to have groceries delivered to your door by the local shop keeper on his bicycle. Orentano is well known for the “Sagra della pizza” – a pizza and beer festival where you can experience the hustle and bustle of Tuscan life and at the same time eat pizza or grilled meat and listen to music. The traditional local “Sagra” takes place throughout June and July. The ancient pastry tradition of the village is celebrated every year with a local event called the “Cream puff Festival” (“Sagra del Bignè”) , on the third Sunday of August. There are other “sagras” (festivals) of all kinds in neighboring towns and villages. There are also historical festivals like, for example, the Medieval Festival in Monte Castello, Lucca, Nozzano, Buti, and many other places which take place from May to September, but especially during the summer months of June, July and August. Only 5 km from Orentano you can find the small town of Altopascio with all kinds of shops and a market on Thursdays. You can also find supermarkets and other stores (furniture, clothes, shoes, etc..). From Altopascio you can catch a train or take the highway to go and visit Florence, Prato, Pistoia, Lucca, Montecatini, Viareggio, Pisa, and many other places. The famous historic and art cities of Florence, Pisa, Lucca, etc.. or the sea are within easy reach. My family, five adult children and I, who all traveled from different parts of the US, just ended a dream vacation at Villa Colombai to celebrate a milestone birthday. The villa was well equipped and had everything we needed. The property is beautiful and peaceful and sits on a large piece of property with a big grassy area, pool, garden and many spots for us to hang out. Stefano was an incredible host. He was friendly and personable and went above and beyond to make our week perfect from booking to the end of our stay. He was very responsive, gave us recommendations on things to do, restaurants, helped us to plan them, made reservations, and arranged transportation if he was unable to drive us to our activities. He even took us grocery shopping when we arrived. We toured Siena, went wine tasting, and had an incredible and fun day truffle hunting, which I highly recommend. He took us to and from the airport, and even took my son on an unexpected trip to retrieve his lost luggage. He arranged a pizza workshop at the villa and worked alongside Luigi, who is hilarious, to help each of us to make our own pizzas. Our last night was the highlight of our trip. Fabrizio, a private chef, made us an incredible meal at the villa where we dined al fresco. Each course was delicious, beautifully presented and the best meal we had while in Tuscany. The house is spacious and there is a lovely outdoor eating area where we ate all our meals. The pool is very large and immaculately kept. The outdoor area is very large and includes table tennis, a 5 aside football pitch and some slides and climbing equipment suitable for the toddler set. Inside there is a small but well equipped kitchen, a sitting room complete with drawing table for the kids and a formal dining room. The first floor has a double and a twin room which share a bathroom and a double with ensuite. The top floor has another twin, a double and a smaller room in the middle with 2 more twin beds. It's a short walk (5-10mins) into Orentano which is a lovely village with several great restaurants and a cafe/ bar serving coffee and pastries and ice cream. We saw very few other tourists and not much English was spoken which we loved! It's easy to drive to a supermarket in Altoapascio and pick up everything you need. Stefano, the owner of the villa, is fantastic and happy to advise on what ever you need. He's also a great tour guide and offers a lot of different options and is very flexible. The highlight for us was the pizza making night which was a lot of fun for adults and kids ranging from 2-72! It was expensive - but totally worth it! We spend most of our time by the pool which was perfect for our children whose ages range from 3 to 11\. The nearby village has great restaurants and, shapes and cafes. Aug 4, 2016 #### Tuscany Property with all conveniences It was the second time that wie have made holidays in this beautiful Villa. That Land is Frances all around, so our dog could always move Frevels and there was no other dog get on the land. It was so nice from Stefano (the owner) that he fanced the pool. It was also safe for our little son. Inside of the Villa ist history and it doesn\`t matter how hot it is outside, the thick walls keep the heat away. But if you need aircondition there is a realy powerful one in the villa. But there are more reasons why we came back to Villa Colombai. For us, the most important reason is the owner Stefano! He is very frendly, helpful and offers many individual opportunities (Pasta-Workshop, Private-Dinner, City tours and so on. Everytime we had a question we asked Stefano, he was always available and helped immediately. It\`s always quiet outside, so we could listen to the birds wilst we had our breakfast. Jun 27, 2016 #### Amazing villa, tranquil location, close to ameneities This is a fantastic villa with everything we needed and more. For our first excursion aboard with a baby grandson in tow we could not have wished for better- facilities both inside and outside the villa are extensive and well maintained. The villa itself is beautiful. There is ample space for effectively at least 3 families whilst everyone still has space to 'do their own thing'. There are restaurants and shops within walking distance but not close enough to interfere with the tranquility of the location. Our stay was enhanced by the willingness of the owner to help us choose excursions and best places to visit- being available whilst not intruding into our holiday. He recommended a brilliant visit to a local vineyard for wine tasting, tour and 'light' Italian lunch and also a local village restaurant 'Da Benita' - an excellent evening meal and very accommodating of a young baby. We have stayed in numerous villas as a family in Italy, Spain and Portugal and we decided this was the best ever and would be happy to stay here again in the future. Our group of 12 ranged in age from 2 to almost 70\. Stefano and Anna were absolutely fantastic and went well beyond what we would have expected to make this a trip we will never forget. We could not have had the experience we did with out their help. In our 2 weeks we went to Rome, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terra, Lucca, San Gimignano and more. We also took the pizza workshop with Stefano and Pizza Chef Guido Buoncristiani and enjoyed a beautiful meal at the villa with Chef Fabrizio. We took in the community Pizza Festival in Orentano and had a wonderful night of food, wine and dancing. Hard to say what we enjoyed the most since it was all terrific. We are looking forward to trying what we learned at the pizza class back in Canada. Not sure it will taste as good. Stefano also set up and joined us at 2 wine tours, one at Capezzana with all of us and one with our son and daughter in law at Chianti Classico. They were both fantastic trips and Stefano's knowledge of the area and the wines was extremely helpful. Highly recommend this if you have time. Surprising to us was how great the meals were that we had right in Orentano. We had a great dinner at da Benito Pizzeria and several terrific meals at De Vito Pizza at both places english only was not an issue and the prices were great. We also started most days with a walk to Panatton for a morning pastry and espresso or cappacino. They are all with in walking distance from the villa. We can honestly say we never had a bad or even average meal the entire time we were away. We have been back for a few weeks now and miss it very much already. We had a group of 10 people, including toddlers, teenagers, middle aged and retired people, and there was something for everyone. We all had a fantastic stay! The layout of the villa is just great and it is very clean. The outdoor area and pool for adults and children is perfect, and the property is very safe for kids to run around with lots to do. Stefano was so accomodating and friendly, and was there for anything we needed. He even personally took some of us on a wine tour and it was the experience of a lifetime. Also the location is great, and we were able to drive quickly to Pisa and then took the train into Florence (train station is real easy drive and plenty of parking). If we had more days we could have explored so much more and many more hill towns within a quick drive. We would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend this villa to anyone that wants to stay in Tuscany and explore! ##### James A. The listing doesn't fully do this property justice. It is even more impressive than the photos - only 35 minutes drive from Pisa airport and within easy drives of some excellent day trips such as Florence, Lucca, Monte Carlo and some amazing little Tuscan hillside towns and wineries. The owner, Stefano, made great efforts to ensure we got all that we wanted out of our stay - we had very early flights into Pisa so he allowed us to relax poolside whilst the villa was prepared for us from the previous guests and even took the trouble to book us a table at the local trattoria (Benitos - well worth a visit for steak lovers). The booking process was very simple and he was extremely prompt and helpful in getting back to us over any questions we had. The property was spotlessly clean and we were left to our own devices during our week's stay. The rooms are all of a good size - my only "negative" feedback on them would be that only the second floor rooms were air conditioned, and that the settings on that were such that it turned off after a few seconds - I suspect we just needed a tutorial on how to use it, but it could perhaps be pre-set to stay on for longer as some of the guests were finding the nights uncomfortably warm. Fans were provided for the other rooms - on the whole this was only a minor niggle and one I'm sure Stefano will attend to. The kitchen is a decent size and well equipped, and the big marble outdoor seating area is a lovely setting for evening meals. The communal lounge area comfortably sits 9 round the TV! The garden and pool area is beautiful - plenty of loungers and deck chairs for sitting round the large pool, with the occasional sound of distant church bells adding to the serene atmosphere! There are large grounds around the pool - a small kids okay area is perfect for toddlers and when we visited, even a small football pitch as well as table tennis and fussball tables. The villa is on the edge of a fairly small village - there are neighbouring properties but they are not imposing. There are a couple of small shops and a couple of restaurants in the village which are an easy walk away. The little pizzeria also served really delicious pizzas and pastas at a really reasonable price and was staffed by really friendly servers. A car is definitely needed if intending to explore the surroundings - there are a few mid-sized supermarkets in Alto Pascio (sp) about a 10 minute drive away. A small group (5 adults) went for a week with our 2 dogs to celebrate my husband's and I 10th anniversary. Stefano was always quick to respond to our queries prior to our visit and was just as quick when we were on site. The Villa is stunning with every possible amenity you could wish for. The pasta making class was a hoot and I am no longer intimidated to try making pasta at home. The dogs had the best vacation of their lives running around what seemed an endless (and totally fenced in) yard. We enjoyed exploring some of the nearby villages, had two wonderful meals at Benito's in town and did a bit of hiking in the nearby forests. Perhaps the best part was our final night and the celebration of our anniversary in which Fabrizio came to cook. We had an outstanding meal with some fantastic wines -- it really was perfection and we won't soon forget our 10th anniversary. Everyone had a great time and have said this vacation was like a dream.
