We had to stay at a hotel four blocks away for the night, then come back to the Castello the following morning. The room was not cleaned daily and the beds not made. Staff was very inexperienced with customer service. The toilet broke twice and the shower would not drain. The building itself is older with older type elevator but nice reminds me of something out of an old movie. Once you get to the hotel floor all is modern. The room was smaller than expected (the picture on the web in Expedia is much bigger) it was good for us, but if you are looking for larger that’s not this hotel. The staff is WONDERFUL. Always ready to assist, always smiling even though they may not speak English they would try to assist in any way they can. The manager was outstanding he helped us book a Nile cruise & tours from Cairo to Alexandria to Aswan. My room was clean and very functional. The only downside was that there weren't many towels (but I'm sure if you asked for more, they'd provide them for you!). The breakfast was "simple" and served with a smile! The location is also central to many "downtown" activities/attractions, and there are plenty of restaurants/shops nearby that one can walk to. Okay, let's be real, this isn't the Ritz. You're not going to find fancy chandeliers or a mint on your pillow. But for the price I paid, I was actually pleasantly surprised by this hotel. My main concerns were cleanliness and a decent night's sleep, and on those fronts, this place delivered. The room wasn't huge or particularly stylish, but it was noticeably clean. The sheets looked fresh, the bathroom was scrubbed (no mysterious hairs or grime!), and there wasn't that lingering musty smell you sometimes get in budget hotels. That was a huge plus for me. The check-in was straightforward and quick, no lengthy delays or rude staff. The person at the front desk was polite and efficient, which is all you can really ask for. The amenities were basic, but functional. The bed was reasonably comfortable, the air conditioning worked, and there was a TV. What more do you really need for a budget stay? Look, if you're expecting luxury, this isn't your place. But if you're looking for a clean, no-frills hotel that won't break the bank, then this is a solid option. It's a good value for the money, and I appreciated that they clearly prioritize cleanliness, which is often overlooked in this price range. I'd definitely consider staying here again if I needed a budget-friendly option in the area. Inside it’s more or less modern but not really a nice choice due to the enormous noise level. From inside! The doors are paperthin and you can even hear the old elevator arriving although my room was the farthest away possible. The second day there was no electricity in the morning. The staff was friendly but everyone had to smoke permanently in the entrance from where all the stench came into the room. Not really a hotel to return to unless you’re traveling on a budget. The interior was newish and ok, if you’re happy just to sleep it may be a solution although it’s mega difficult to find a good night’s sleep thanks to the permanent noise level from the inside and of course the never ending honking and traffic from outside. I’m on my way to the Hilton right now. It’s not the smartest idea to cheap out in Egypt. People are generally friendly but as anywhere else you certainly get what you pay for. The entrance of the building was dirty, and the elevator was an old metal one. We tried to use the elevator, but it was unavailable. We went up the stairs, which were dirty and narrow. On the first floor, we found dirty doors and unbearable smells. We asked about Castillo and were told it was on the second floor. We went up, and a girl welcomed us. She took us to the first room; we reluctantly agreed to it even though it was small. The second room wasn’t available, and she said she would give us a small room with two beds and not even a window, for one night only, because the guest in the room that was supposed to be ours hadn’t left yet.”“He refused to leave and renewed his stay, even though he was the one who was supposed to take the small room. They couldn’t find any solution for us. We asked to meet the manager; they said he was traveling and refused to let us call him. Then we discovered that he was actually in his office and didn’t speak to us. The area does not feel safe or clean, and the treatment was unprofessional.
