The concierge Lucas was maybe the best part of it all. We got the 2 bedroom suite. It was huge and the aircons worked well enough (rare in Europe.

I booked this hotel months in advance, before Europe experienced the extreme heat wave. At the time, I knew the hotel didn’t have air conditioning, but I never imagined temperatures would become dangerously high. During our trip, my teenage son became ill from the extreme heat and required medical attention. I had no choice but to find another hotel with air conditioning, costing me an additional $2,200 for 4 nights. I contacted the hotel, explained the medical emergency, and asked if they could work with me on a refund or even a partial refund. They refused. As a single mom who spent years saving to give my son this once-in-a-lifetime trip, I was devastated. Instead of showing even the smallest amount of compassion during a genuine emergency, they chose to keep every dollar despite the fact we spent less than one hour in the room. I understand that hotels have cancellation policies, but there should also be room for basic human decency when someone’s health is at risk. No parent should have to choose between losing thousands of dollars and protecting their child’s well-being. If you’re traveling during the summer months, especially as heat waves become more common, I strongly recommend staying somewhere with air conditioning. I wish I had known how dangerous the conditions would become. Very disappointing experience, not because the hotel lacked AC, but because it lacked compassion. Shameful!
