#### Resting high on its own islet, this large golden seated Buddha watches over the island of Koh Samui and is one of the area’s most visited attractions.

The Big Buddha was built quite recently in 1972, but has quickly become one of the island’s most famous sights. Wat Phra Yai, as the locals call it, is the central location for Buddhist prayers on the island. Although it is a religious site, tourists are always welcome.

A special time to visit the Big Buddha is during the morning, just as the sun rises and the locals come to give their daily offerings. Cross the short causeway to the statue and view the offerings of colorful flowers and fruit. The morning is also the only time when the local monks perform their chants and prayers, an unforgettable experience. 

During the day, food stalls and small shops are set up to provide snacks and souvenirs. The statue can get busy on holy days, so be prepared for crowds. Admire the statue from below before heading up the staircase to reach the base of the 40-foot (12-meter) high statue.

At night the Big Buddha statue takes on another shade of gold as it is lit from below. The golden statue shines brightly and can be seen from miles away. Visiting in the evening might also allow you to avoid some of the crowds during the day. 

Throughout the year the Big Buddha statue is the site for many Buddhist festivals and is descended upon by hundreds of worshippers from across the island. 

You’ll find the Big Buddha on the northern end of Koh Samui, just to the east of Bang Rak Beach, and only two miles (three kilometers) north of the airport. The statue is a religious site and as such visitors are encouraged to cover their shoulders and wear long pants when visiting.

We spent 5 days here Beautiful gardens and lovely pool. We spent most of the time on the beach as there was a lovely breeze Really liked the gardens, Beach and the beach bar Thanks to Num and Oh in the Shine spa onsite for lovely massages. The Spa has a really nice vibe to it We didnt use the gym but it looked to be well maintained. The hotel front is on a busy road so it can get noisy at times if you have a room fronting on to it but the rooms themselves are comfortable and very clean. The staff are very helpful and friendly whether in front of house or in the beach club Food was lovely. Amazing choice at Breakfast buffet. A short beach walk to fishermans village if you want something different in the evening. The hotel fronts directly on to the lovely beach there is no road to cross to access.

Overall was an amazing stay. Staff are friendly and the property is well kept. Our ocean view pool villa was just what we wanted. Only 2 things that drop the rating to 4 stars instead of 5 1) wait time to get some items from housekeeping took almost 1hr (just 2 beach towels) - other services like calling a buggy or room service was very prompt and speedy 2) there was a wedding but the notification did not mention anything about loud music from the restaurant. (Only mentioned loud noise from a firework show at 1030pm - which was fine as we expected it) It went on for about 3 hrs. We could here all the music and lyrics clearly from our villa. We understand it is a wedding and a happy occassion but was not expecting the music (if any) to be that loud. If we knew we would have made arrangements to go out to town that night. It did ruin our night and was very unpleasant. We also could barely hear the TV with the music playing. We were about 3 or 4 villa ls away from the Star restaurant where the wedding was held Front office staff was nice and offered an apology meal but it doesnt amount to the 1 night value we lost to enjoy our night and villa. Hopefully the next wedding wont effect the next guests Other than that..amaIng property, great views and nice staff
