The 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom property is nestled in a lush, vibrant cloud forest more than 1,400 feet above sea level and is teeming with wildlife. Plan to spend plenty of time outdoors at Casa Olas Azul. The infinity pool is breathtaking, and the weather is absolutely perfect to hang around on the poolside lounge chairs or grill some fresh fish on the barbecue. In addition, a landscaped tropical garden highlights the backyard foliage. Throughout the property, there are incredible views of the Pacific Ocean and the famous Whale's Tail at Marino Ballena National Park, a rocky reef that stretches more than a mile out to sea and is completely exposed during low tides. It truly is a sight to behold as nature works its course each Costa Rican day. The modern kitchen at Casa Olas Azul is perfect for making gourmet meals. It features an island with granite counter top and stainless-steel appliances including refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, blender, ice-maker and all the cutlery you'll need to prepare perfect feasts each day of your stay. Next to the kitchen is a living area with two sofas, a flat-screen television and DVD player. The villa also comes equipped with fiber optic Internet service, a secured safe for your valuables as well as a washer and dryer unit. The master bedroom features a luxurious king bed and beautiful ocean views, while the second bedroom offers garden views and contains a pair of twin beds that can be combined to form a comfortable king size bed. There are air-conditioning units in each of the bedrooms. Overall, it's an ideal setup for families with children or for two couples. Casa Olas Azul is located in the Costa Verde Estates Community, about 25-30 minutes off the coastal highway and almost directly centered between the towns of Dominical and Uvita, where you can find excellent restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies and unlimited activities such as surfing, diving, fishing, zip lining, and more, The road to Costa Verde Estates features both dirt and concrete surfaces, and a 4×4 vehicle is required. There is a security gate to enter the community with a full-time guard on duty. The community is extremely safe and incredibly beautiful. Because it’s located high in the cloud forest, the temperature at Casa Olas Azul is very pleasant, often 10 degrees cooler than down at the beach. As guests in the Costa Verde Estates development, your group will have access to an outdoor tennis court, a workout room, a large outdoor picnic area and a helicopter pad in case of medical emergencies or if you just feel like taking a helicopter to San Jose instead of driving!! Tennis rackets and balls are provided by the house, so there’s little need to pack your playing gear for the trip. Casa Olas Azul sits is in a prime vacation destination of Costa Rica. The listing does not fully prepare you for the reality of getting to this house. The property is perched at the very top of a mountain, and the only way up is a long, steep, and winding dirt road. It’s so far up that you actually cross into San José province. The drive is extremely challenging and not something most renters will feel comfortable doing, especially at night or in poor weather.Once at the house, the problems continued. There is no cell phone service whatsoever, meaning that in an emergency you would be completely isolated. On our first night, the power went out twice, leaving us with no lights and no way to contact anyone. Imagine being 20 minutes up a dangerous road, in total darkness, with no phone service and young children who were terrified. It was incredibly stressful and unsafe.Yes, the house itself is beautiful and the view is spectacular, but those positives do not outweigh the negatives. A vacation rental should feel like a place where you can relax, not one where you feel stranded and anxious. Words can’t describe how incredible the view is and how incredibly relaxing it is in the back patio! It is both a visual and auditory sensation. Hearing and seeing the various birds and different bird calls, hearing the monkeys, seeing coatis every day and nighttime visitors-geckos and frogs! We loved it! The plants and trees are stunning as well and it’s private! Like others have shared though-the road up to the house is rough! It took us 25-30 minutes one way in our 4-wheel Suzuki jeep. Myself, my husband and our six year old had a great time at the house. The pool and the daily visits from the coati were the highlights. The pool was even warm enough for me. Our typical day was to head out early to town or the beach and come back in the afternoon to enjoy the house and views! Going up and down the road twice a day was the nost I'd recommend but I think ny husband would have no issue with more trips a day. The house and views were worth the drive. Oscar was very helpful checking us into the property when we arrived after dark. The villa was everything we had hoped it would be. The view is stunning! The kitchen had everything we needed. We were completely comfortable with having AC's in each bedroom. It was very clean! Everything you need is in the house (dishes, cookware, laundry, iron, hair dryer, detergents, garbage bags, towels, etc.). We loved the outdoor patio and pool! The wildlife is great. Tucan birds came by in the early morning and evening at sunset. There were other small mammals that visited the yard during our stay as well. We were close to lots of waterfalls, the mangrove monkey boat tour was great, the Costa Rican spheres were very cool, great dining options in Dominical and at Scala and Jolly Roger (closest to the house). Awesome views of the Whale's Tail from the home. My heart ached a little when it was time to go home. The comments about needing a 4 wheel drive are accurate. Oscar, the best concierge in the world, helped me with renting a vehicle since I could not find whether the rental vehicles were 4 wheel drive on the websites. From the time I secured this house rental one year earlier, Oscar was always helpful, friendly and immediately responsive whenever I communicated with him. It was wonderful being greated every morning by yellow throated toucans and pendulum birds...more often than not a coatimunda strolling through the yard. Grunts from howler monkeys could be heard every morning and evening, though we never saw on the mountain. We did however, see capuchin monkeys 3 times...and lots of tropical birds and butterflys 🦋. Mostly I was charmed by Lizzie, a Jesus lizard (common basilisk). She likes hanging by the edge of the infinity pool and having the water wash over her feet. She is not real shy and I could be in the pool a foot away and she would just look a me curiously when I talked to her. The house....just lovely! There weren't any spices or condiments left by previous renters so if you're going to stay a while, you might want to bring you're favorite spices in a ziplock. Spices are pretty inexpensive though. Also, I would recommend bringing a few extra face cloths...one face cloth, bath towel and hand towel for each of 4 people, plus a pool towel. ❤ ##### Susan M. Takes about 20 minutes of 4x4 1st & 2nd gear driving to reach the house from the main road, but that's definitely part of the adventure that gets you the spectacular views from the house. Scala and Bar Jolly Roger are great food options closest to the house. Can't say enough good things about the house and its private lot. We enjoyed seeing toucans morning and evening each day. The cody was cool to see as well, but it will definitely go after the trashcan after you put the first bag in it - so keep the bungies tight. A fantastic home tucked into the jungle. The views are really amazing. We spent a lot of time in the pool gazing out at the vista. We highly recommend a stay here. The only thing that we thought could be improved upon was the router for the internet was old and therefore the connection wasn’t as good as it could have been. High up in the hills outside of Dominical and Uvita, it’s a great house with a great property manager. He was in constant contact with us as needed for different things such as booking adventures and power outages. Things you need to know for this house: the 4x4 car is not an option. It’s a fun and amazing drive getting up to the house on (mostly) unpaved roads for 4 miles. If you’re not the adventurous type, this house might not be for you. The drive is worth it though as the views you see in the picture are 100% what you get. We saw Toucans every morning, usually 3-4\. We had a friendly Coati come by our house as well (pretty much a Costa Rican raccoon). There were 3 frogs/toads that came by every night to join us next to the pool. This is Costa Rica, so just know your power might go out and flicker every so often, but just make the best of it and enjoy the amazing views and environment. Initial feelings were a bit mixed while following Oscar, the property manager, up the road. I had read all the reviews but you really have to experience it to understand. Let me tell you that when we pulled into the driveway, all of our worried dissolved! I have not seen a view like that and it’s worth every minute of the 20 min drive up. Oscar told us that the first time was the worst and the second is better- it was very true! After that first drive, every other one was a breeze! He assured us it was safe even in rain and it was. Now about the property!! Absolutely breathtaking! I can’t imagine there is a better view in the area than the one we had. The infinity pool was refreshing and beautiful. Every morning we watched the toucans playing in the trees. The landscaping was meticulous and beautifully done. Inside the house we had everything we needed! The dishwasher was a bonus! The house was clean and tidy and had games and movies for the kids. A/C in the bedrooms also spilled over to the main space so it was always nice and cool inside. What a beautiful/comfortable space! We do hope to return one day! Thank you, Oscar for your help! He went above and beyond booking a whale watching trip and also helping us make a dinner reservation at Gusto’s (highly recommend).
