Although this once tranquil fishing hamlet is now a popular destination on Peru's 'Gringo Trail', it has clung proudly to its fishing roots. These narrow boats, made from the same reeds used by the Uros in the Lake Titicaca region, are still in use today. They're known as 'Caballitos de Tortora', meaning "little horses" because of the way they are 'ridden' by the fishermen who use them.
