The room lacked a mini bar but the room service is 24 hour. Bit of a queue at the breakfast buffet, table service would be more appropriate.

Novotel Southampton

"Modern hotel for cruise ship passengers."
Novotel was exactly what we needed. Just one block away from the train station, and all modern amenities and a very helpful staff. It is a short cab ride from the cruise ship terminal (costs about 7 pounds), and you can't walk there. Prebook a cab for busy departure days. Great food, although pricey.

Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel

34-35 High Street, Southampton - Map
"Neat historic, renovated Georgian Manor House."
Right in the middle of a preserved historic area. Plenty of shops, pubs and eateries within easy walking distance. Short pleasing walk to the historic waterfront where settlers to the New World departed. Beautiful moument across from the boat basin and several pubs with outside seating to enjoy dinner or a 'pint'. Uptown the Maritime and Sea Museum is outstanding, with the most interesting exhibit on the most famous ship to have departed there - the Titanic. Great park two blocks away with many memorials (great photos to be had) related to Southampton's legacy as a seaport and commerce center. Could not more highly recommend a better place to stay, oh!! the ajoining resteraunt is superb for breakfast or dinner or . . . lunch. Just a great feature! Check it out, we will, if ever in Southampton again!!

"Comfortable & Quiet"
I really enjoyed my stay here. There was some confusion checking in as the staff wasn't sure if I had already paid through Expedia, or if I still needed to pay upon arrival, but we figured it out. I stayed in a single twin room and it was small, but I really wouldn't have needed anything bigger. A kettle and selection of teas were provided. The bed was really comfortable - I only stayed here for one night, but I didn't want to get out of bed because I felt like I was snuggled on a fluffy cloud. Room was clean and updated. Nice furnishings. They offer breakfast, but it's not free. Despite being so close to the road and right by the "party center" in Southampton, my stay was quiet and I got a good night's rest.

"Great hotel for overnight stay before ferry "
Stayed for one night before an early morning ferry crossing from Southampton. Really comfortable beds, quiet location with excellent restaurant facilities. Only downside is that wi-fi is via the cloud rather than available on site which necessitated a rather elongated registration process. Easy enough once registered.Staff were all great. Breakfast is extra but you get a reduced price if you book it the night before.

"Staff did not know area or area attractions"
We drove to this location trusting someone would guide us to their local attractions. Went through 5 people (2 electricians) and 3 staff members, before we found out where to go for the day.
