“Trip of a lifetime”
Navona was recommended by a co-worker and it did not disappoint. She said Mike at the reception was excellent, and he was, from arranging to pick us up at the airport, helpful hints with the bus services/routes and getting us back to the airport to pick up a car for the rest of our trip. This hotel is one block from the Piazza Navona and is central to everything. The hotel is on the second floor and you have to carry your bags up, so depending on your age this could be a problem but Mike was willing to help those in need. I think this hotel is best described as a hotel located inside an apartment/business type building. For us it had everything we needed, the breakfast was good and we felt safe in the area. What i did notice was that this hotel offers shared bathrooms which happened to be in the area of our room, you could not help but see them and they were spotless everyday. The room we had was quiet as we were at the back but like any other hotel in Rome or Florence the rooms at the front would be a little noisier.
“Would stay there again”
Charming room. Excellent help from hotel staff. Great location - walked to Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, shopping, eating, without trouble and felt safe all of the time. Super funky room keys added fun - how old are these locks? A/C worked well. Plumbing worked just fine. Very quiet - no street noise - couldn't hear any other room. Windows seal very tightly to keep out noise. Slept very well.
“Great location, so-so maintenance”
This hotel has a fabulous location very near the Piazza Navona and close to many of the major tourist sites in Rome. The initial impression is poor, since you enter through a courtyard that is not well maintained or landscaped. The layout of the hotel is unconventional. Also the room was not updated and had scuff marks on the walls. The bathroom was tiny with a low ceiling arch & not quite clean. However, given the high cost of hotels in Rome, this one is reasonably priced and in a great location.
“Not good!”
Hotel Navona has one thing going for it-Location. It is very centrally located and we were able to walk to everything, which is good because the buses looked extremely over crowded with lots of people standing. I like the freedom of walking, but we got lost a lot, being that the streets are a confusing maze always changing directions and street name. I mention this because being 1 block from Piazza Navona was the only way we ever found our way back to our hotel. I highly recommend staying near a major attraction for this reason-just Not This Hotel. It also helps if you always know where the river is to keep your bearings. Even though the location was worth the price, the hotel itself was not. It is very bare bones, with no frills, very small-hardly even room for our luggage-and even though the linens seemed clean, the rest of the room did not meet my standards-but it was bare able & did have a big bathroom/shower by Italian standards. We were short on time, but with some advanced planning you can find something much better for the price.
