I stayed here with my husband and one of our favorite parts about visiting Costa Rica was this lodge. The hosts prepared a great wholesome breakfast for us every morning and had great recommendations about restaurants and places to visit while in Puerto Viejo. if you're looking for a laid back, unique place to stay, this lodge is really great. Thank you Pepo and crew <3
I must say - I was a little disappointed upon my arrival because the rooms did not look the way they did online. All in all, it was a pleasant stay but this is not a place for luxury. The room was clean and basic but right next to the pool. So if you are trying to get rest and they are partying in the water, its a wrap for you. The included breakfast was a sheer bonus and the food was delicious, the staff was very pleasant so I quickly got over my "basic" shock and sunk into the ease of taking a stroll to several eating places, street vendors and shops each evening.
This Hotel has improve a lot. I have been there already 5 times in a row and the administration is improving from time to time.
My last visit was not an exception. Clean, customer care improvements, facilities renewal,
Good Job Perla Negra,
Keep it Up.
"Perfect location for Eco tourists beach/rainforest"
For anyone looking for a combination of an isolated beach and rainforest reserve this is the place. Featuring some of the worlds friendliest staff who will treat you like family, who truly care about your experience. Prices are completely reasonable. The food is 5 star or better, surpassing anything we have ever ate in the world, from presentation to freshness and menu variety, always cooked to perfection. There are public beaches within walking distance, and local attractions and activitys to ensure you are never bored. We could not have asked for a better experience.
Comfortable and spacious room.. great jungle sounds and surf while sleeping... Staff was excellent. Sheets and towels could use an update, and maybe a seat or chair would be nice - but otherwise all was as advertised.
This hotel was truly amazing. It is hidden in the jungle which is exactly what we were looking for to get the "Costa Rican" feel. It is close to town and the beautiful beaches. Miriam is an angel and helped us set up our transportation to and from the airport and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay a memorable one. Dilan who also works at the hotel is one of a kind. He set up all our tours and excursions for us and introduced us to awesome people throughout the trip. He made sure we were always in good hands and watched out for us. They are two very special people and we will never forget them.
The hotel is very clean and offers an AWESOME complimentary breakfast every morning. We didn't get to have it one morning because we were going canopying early and we were so sad that we had to miss it. However, Miriam and Dilan made sure to put fruit and coffee in our rooms for us.
This was by far one of the best vacations I have ever been on and VIP Playa Negra is the hotel to stay at when visiting Puerto Viejo. Looking up flights back right now actually =)
Hotel was fine but it looks much better when you check the website. Some of the rooms would need to be refurbished as they are probably running with the same old furniture as many years ago. We had to upgrade to a superior room (with extra cost) to feel we stayed in the same hotel as the website. Staff was kind and arranged a better deal to choose the new room.
Hotel was about 2 miles away from the center of town. So walking was kinda long but you could rent a bike for about $7 per day. There was a restaurant and grocery store only a meters away which was nice because you could cook your own food and save money. My only problem was the owner did not send me a e-mail saying that he only takes cash, until the last day. This was kinda of a problem but he gave me a $50 discount on the room, that was great.
