“Mixed feelings”
By Paris standards, the hotel is quite all right, although it’s more of a 3 star than 4. Rooms were clean and the bathroom was rather spacious (by Paris standards) and very comfortable. I really liked the location, it’s a middle class non-touristy neighborhood full of inexpensive good dining options, supermarkets and coffee/pastry shops. The touristy part, Latin Quarter is 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel. The subway station is across the street. First day I was very content with my hotel choice, but disaster was awaiting. Next day I returned to hotel around 2-3AM after a long day of touring Paris. I found the iron-cast entrance door to the hotel closed. I ringed the bell, no answer, ringed again and again, no answer. Then I started screaming “Please open the door!!!” hoping that the concierge will hear me, to no avail. I started knocking at the door loudly, this also didn’t help. I was repeating this operation for an hour or so. Then I got tired and real cold. I’ve found a bench in the park cross the hotel and laid there. Several hours later the concierge did open the door. Luckily for him I was too exhausted and stressed to express my real feelings. I just told him couple of nice words and rushed to my room. The conclusion is that you might find the stay at Villa Lutece Port Royal enjoyable, but it’s a good idea to get back to your room before midnight, unless you are eager to experience the night as a Parisian homeless.
“Good hotel but a fairly remote location.”
Decent hotel for the money. However the location is a distance from most attractions but there are convienient subways and trains. Though if you want a restaurant after 6pm, it is a 10-15minute walk to find anything open.
“An "OK" place”
For the price, it was an "OK" place. Everything is very compact - small elevator, narrow stairs with small steps, narrow halls. Some mold on bathroom ceiling. We had 2 rooms. One room's air conditioning was fine, the other didn't work very well. Fair amount of street noise. Close by are good eateries, ATM, small grocer, and laundry mat. Metro station is 1-2 blocks away.
“It was worth three stars ...”
The hotel was clean, there is an elevator, it is close to a metro station. The only problem was that the room was very small, the bathtub's water was dripping to the floor, the little door was broken. We had to wait a long time before having a sleep (we arrived at 8am and got in only at 2pm), it is something we didn't expect. In addition, even though we had internet, we were not able to catch in from our room, we had to go downstairs.. It is an OK hotel, but I was expecting it to me much better for a 4 star hotel, especially that we were a couple.
“Above Average”
We stayed there for 4 nites in September 2009. The hotel was clean, the service was friendly and most everyone spoke english. The room was small by American standards and by other standards of hotels we stayed at in France (8'X8'). You could not tell from the pictures. Of course we are talking about Paris so there is a premium on space. In addition there was a charge for everything...TV, breakfast in the morning (although the hotel advertised breakfast available in the morning the small print said there was a $20 euro charge for this), no free coffee in the room, etc. These are all things that we did find in our rooms in Nice and Caen during our trip. Other than that this was hotel was fine.
“Book the suite if possible.”
When shown to our twin room, we discovered 2 beds pushed together, with no room on either side (a virtual double bed). I was not happy and was upgraded to a suite which was very spacious (for Paris standards). Fantastic bathroom and great facilities. Will stay here again.
“I'd like to go back again.”
Overall, very happy with our stay. The concierge at the reception desk (Sultana)was her name, had been extremely helpful in providing us with a good tour operator in going to Versailles and our shuttle service to the airport. She also pointed out to us that we could walk along the Left Bank of the River Seine to go to the Notre Dame Cathedral. And it was a such a breeze to have done so. We really enjoyed it. hf
“an OK hotel...”
This hotel was nice, staff extremely helpful. However, the rooms were very small. Though well kept, there was hardly any room to move around in a double. Additionally, our AC didn't work. We weren't able to connect to their wifi. Just not worth it overall, unless you can afford to be alone in the room. Neighborhood was alright. Not as bustling as I expected, however.
