“Needs better maintenance”

Worn, spotty carpet. It needs better maintenance - broken soap shelf in shower and sink plug, walls need some patching. But it was clean and inexpensive - was OK for us to stay 4 nights.

“Great basic hotel to meet your needs.”

While not the fanciest, the Eden was in such a great location in Montmartre. A mere 10 minute walk to the Sacre Coeur, a quick walk down the street to the metro, great neighborhood cafes and bars... fantastic ambiance. The service at the hotel was good. Staff was helpful and kind - and understanding about us being there for the first time and not knowing much French. Since we planned to only sleep in our room - not live there - it was great for us. Though we could've done with more electrical outlets. :) Small price to pay though for being in such a lovely city.

Area recommendations
Montmartre - quaint, gorgeous, and just a nice feel to it. Everything you want Montmartre to be.
When to go
Early September. The city is coming back to life after summer and is still plenty warm and gorgeous.
Getting around
We were at first a little hesitant - but eventually the metro was the only way we got around. Easy to maneuver and if you get on going the wrong way - get off at the next stop and catch the next train going the other way. Easy fix! (we only had to do it once!)

“Convinient location”

Very friendly stuff and cozy atmosphere during breakfast. Room is basic and require renovation. A little bit smelly. Our priority was location as we like walking to look around. Overall we are very satisfied.

“Friendly service for Paris in the winter..”

Breakfast is good. Hotel is clean and people are very helpful.

Getting around
The hotel directions from the airport to the hotel said, "take the RER and get off on Gare du Nord". There was no Gare du Nord only Paris du Nord. And everyone in Paris knows is the same thing. (Not us). We got a little scared because people kept saying, "watch your purse!". There has to be a better way to get from the airport to the Hotel. (A shuttle service would have been better). Since we missed our stop, we did not want to go back on the subway. We still had to get a cab to the hotel. Plan ahead...

“HOTEL OR CRIME SCENE”

Front desk clerk very rude on check in. On another occasion I came to him to ask for directions. I stood right in front of him and said hello. He looked right thru me. He did not even acknowledge me. Another clerk came out of her way to come talk with me when she noticed that he was blantantly ignoring me. Interior: There is a filthy stairway that leads to your room. Walls are filthy and in need of wash and new paint. Carpets drab and need to be changed. Im not kidding when I say this but it reminded me of one of those cop dramas where a dead body is found in the seedy hotel. I know that you come to Paris to see that sites but, you do want to return to a clean place that is somewhat pleasant. One thing this place has going for it is that it is cheap, Sometimes I have noticed that the hotel rate fluctuates. You should really consider paying a few extras bucks for a nicer place to lay your head. Would never use this hotel again.

“Four Day Site Seers From Colorado”

On recent, first time visit to Paris we read user reviews on this site and decided this hotel would fit our budget and our desires. We arrived in morning from airport and staff kept our luggage until check in, allowing us to get good start on site seeing. Great location, a block from Metro, could go anywhere, quickly. Lovely, safe, fun neighborhood a short uphill walk to beautiful Sacre Coeur church. Staff was multi-lingual and very helpful. They charted directions to Versailles, dinner recommendations were very good. Room wasn't huge, but was adequate, was clean, and for Paris prices, quite satisfactory. There was a nice, fresh breakfast buffet every morning that was regularly re-stocked. Would certainly stay here again.

Area recommendations
So many great sites in Paris. Trip to Versailles took four or five hours total from Hotel, but was incredible. I've never been anywhere else like it and you understand American history viewing its excesses. Notre Dame was awe inspiring, as was Sacre Coeur, which was very close to our hotel. Our favorite little out of the way area was Place Tertre, just a couple of blocks from Sacre Coeur. About the only place we were disappointed going out of the way to see was Moulin Rouge. It was in an area that was like the old, 1970s Times Square with a lot of porno shops around. But there were so many other great places, and it was easy to get around on the Metro. You should be prepared to walk, however. One other thing: French food is not over-rated. Some of the best dining we've ever had.

“Lovely little hotel”

Was close to the Metro (subway) had great cafes nearby. Sacre Coeur (church) is walking distance. Elevator (lift) was quite small but we just laughed about it. Would stay here again and would recommend to a friend.

Area recommendations
Paris is wonderful no matter where you go! Enjoy your time in the city, don't spend it in the hotel. Be sure you see Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower. Eat lots!
Getting around
We walked a lot! I joked that any weight we lost by walking we most certainly gained back by eating! Metro was convenient and inexpensive. Use a subway map, they're helpful.
What to pack
We went to Paris from Dec 16-24 and there was some light snow which soon became slushy. Wish I had brought boots - so I bought some! Better to have too many sweaters than not enough.
Must see
Churches, Faniculaire (near SC church), Champs d'Elysses. We climbed the stairs of the Eiffel Tower - still out of breath! The whole city is spectacular!
Nightlife
We saw the Feerie show of Moulin Rouge. Worth it!

“Great location, great view!”

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in October 2009. It was a great hotel - clean, convenient location, and friendly staff. The only issue we had is that the hotel is near a bar and at night we had a lot of cigarette smoke coming into our room from the room next to us & the bar below us. The view was great - we asked for a room with a street view & it was beautiful!

“Good value hotel, good location”

Stayed 8 nights and the hotel was fine, it is a bit dated but was clean with lots of hot water. The staff was very friendly and helpful, spoke english well. The location was great, very close to the metro and in a very nice neighbourhood for just walking. There was a market just around the corner and nice restaurants nearby. We would go back again and for the price, would stay at the Eden again.

Traveller's tip
The hotel is affordable and is close to a lot of attractions, such as the Sacre Coeur and Place Tetre. The metro is close,it only takes 15 minutes to travel from this station to the Concord near the Champs Elysees. The rooms are small in the hotel, but if you are there to see Paris, you won't be spending much time in the room.
