    Puerto Rico Hotel Guide

Puerto Rico has earned its nickname of the “Isle of Enchantment.” The sun-drenched American territory seduces visitors with its wildly diverse tropical terrain, seemingly endless stretches of sand, and swashbuckling history.

A true tropical playground, Puerto Rico satisfies big-wave surfers, beach bums looking to unwind, and sunrise hikers eager to explore the rainforest. Its coral reefs are home to abundant tropical fish, its misty mountains surround limestone caves waiting to be explored, and the pleasant chirp of coqui frogs provides a natural soundtrack. The island is home to some of the most arid and most lush forests in the region, and some of the world's rarest birds fly across the skies. The trails of El Yunque lead to peaks that break through the clouds, perfect waves lap the beaches of Rincon, and in many Puerto Rico hotels, you will feel like you found your own slice of tropical heaven.

Puerto Rico's culture is spirited and vibrant. Traditional pig roasts are common at many Puerto Rico hotels, and polyrhythmic salsa music pulses through the streets of cities like Ponce and Boqueron. Many hotels in Puerto Rico are near museums celebrating everything from traditional art to classical European painting and the country's failed attempt at revolution. A cheap Puerto Rico hotel deal opens the doors to explore all this and more.

The island's dynamic past comes alive through fortress walls that still bear the scars of cannon fire, sugar refineries with crumbling towers, and the colourful colonial homes that line the harbour cities' narrow streets.

In Old San Juan, candy-coloured residences with wrought-iron balconies tower over cobblestoned streets that host restaurants, buzzing nightclubs, and souvenir shops. If you also want to be close to the sea and the island's top casinos, book rooms in this area. The many cheap hotel deals in Puerto Rico make staying in the capital surprisingly affordable.

If you prefer quiet beaches over the chaos of a city, head to Rincon. A surfer's paradise, the small town on the island's west coast has some of the best waves, beaches, and Puerto Rico hotel packages. Although more affordable than San Juan, prices in Rincon do go up during the high surfing season, so make reservations early and take advantage of special discount rates when you find them. Puerto Rico hotel deals are best in November and May, but there really is no bad time to be on the island.

We were looking for a budget place for one night in Old San Juan, and that's what we got. Great location next to open plaza, clean, safe, very walkable area. We took an interior windowless room, very basic, a bit musty but that's to be expected. Old and somewhat rundown. Friendly, helpful staff. Overall, low expectations met.

long wait for check in. very expensive food in hotel. the pizza in the trattoria was good but the gelato was watery and not good. we ate breakfast on the last day at the terraza and ordered a la carte and we thought it was the worst breakfast we had in all of puerto rico. the bakery basket wasn't fresh, the eggs were super runny even though they confirmed they would be medium, and the service was terrible too. it's as if they didn't want you there. disappointed that there was an extra charge to use beach umbrellas. also felt like we were given the worst room off to the corner overlooking the parking lot with no balcony. such a small bathroom but that's probably same with every room. at least it was fairly clean (although one of the drawers did have the previous guest's garbage still in it) and bed was comfortable too. I liked the fact that they had blackjack in the casino with 10 and 15 dollar tables. i was not offered a player's card, if there is one, so my losses were not tracked. The grounds are really nice with two pools; one quiet one and one louder one with music and a pool bar. we spent most of our time on the beach though. overall we enjoyed our stay as we spent most of our time on the grounds or exploring other parts of san juan. it was nice to be close to airport. I think less than 10 min cab ride.

"Mixed reviews, some good, some not."
Room was small but clean. View of an alley out French doors. Cable TV operation and content not very good. Beds were 2 single, and small but decent, lighting was terrible in the room, very low levels with all lights on. OK during the day when the balcony doors were open, but dark in the evening. Swimming pool ok for 2, no more, Jacuzzi was ok, could have been warmer. Staff was friendly and responsive. We ate there 2 times in our 5 night stay, was ok, not great although pricey. The last night we had dinner there and it was not good, service (we waited forever) was poor and the food was worse. Complained(which we rarely do) and the MGR took it off our hotel bill thank God. The location is great, lots of street activity and the Cathederal nearby add a lot and the wine and cheese reception is fun. Overall ambience is quite nice, but you pay for it. Not your typical cookie cutter hotel, offers much in the way of architexture and history, but could do better.
