Guatemala Mountain Vacations

I have stayed at the Barcelo on many occasions and this is the very first visit that I was not pleased with the condition of the rooms. In our first room, the hair dryer did not work and had to be replaced. The toilet did not flush. The maintenance person came twice and finally said that no toilet paper could be disposed in the toilet under any circumstances. After complaining, the staff were very helpful and moved us to another room. Despite verifying that everything was in order, the hair dryer in the new room was malfunctioning and we were afraid to use it. At around 2 am, we were woken up with a tremendous noise from the central air conditioning that lasted quite a while. Upon checking, it seemed the noise was emanating from the ceiling in the bathroom. Despite all this, the Barcelo remains one of my most favorite hotels in Guatemala City. The staff is, as always, very courteous and helpful. I would still return to stay there on another visit as I suppose the issues we encountered were an exception to the norm.
