The best time to go to Peru depends on whether you're planning to visit the Andes, the Amazon rainforest, or the Pacific coast, as the country has distinct climate zones. For those planning to trek the Inca Trail or explore the Andean highlands around Cusco and Machu Picchu, the dry season from May to October is ideal. During these months, you'll experience clear skies and less rain, making for more comfortable hiking conditions and better views. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, though nights can be quite cold, especially at higher altitudes. This period is superb for adventurers and those seeking active holidays. If your primary interest is the Amazon rainforest, the dry season, roughly from May to October, is also generally preferred. While the rainforest is always humid and can experience rain year-round, the dry season sees slightly less rainfall, making wildlife spotting potentially easier as animals congregate around fewer water sources. Trails are also less muddy. This time of year is excellent for wildlife enthusiasts and those looking for a comfortable rainforest experience. For travellers focusing on Peru's Pacific coast, including Lima, the summer months from December to April offer warm, sunny weather. This is ideal for enjoying the beaches and coastal activities.
