Welcome to animatronic anachronism theater at Carillon Historical Park! Famous faces in Dayton history including John H. Patterson, Charles Kettering, Edward A. Deeds and Orville and Wilbur Wright take the audience through a 4-D telling of Dayton's influence on invention and technology. There's audio, video, lightning, wind, rain and plenty of Dad jokes for everyone!
The Deeds Carillon illuminated for the holidays. An awesome spectacle and an awesomely short-lived road side attraction! The Deeds Carillon, the largest carillon in Ohio had been transformed into the shape of a holiday tree towering 200 feet in the air and glowing with 20,000 white lights. The plan was for the Carillon Tree of Light to be turned on nightly through New Year’s Day and be accompanied by the bells playing a medley of holiday classics on the hour. I went on Sunday night and stood in wonderment of the melodic bells and the strands of light enhancing the already majestic silhouette of the carillon. Overnight, wind gusts in excess of 40 or even 50 miles per hour damaged many of the strands of light. By morning, the damage was such that the display was beyond repair and will now be taken down for the year. Quite a whirlwind tale for the inaugural lighting of the the Deeds Carillon.
Locust Grove School No. 12 built in 1896 served as a one room school house near Springfield OH. The building has been moved and rebuilt inside Carillon Historical Park complete with the rope that rings the bell!
