Explore five different rooms with a variety of displays from the building’s history. The cottage garden offers a tranquil place to relax and play games. Travel through over 600 years of history in a building that started out as a yeoman’s house in the Middle Ages. The cottage was built in about 1380 and served as a family home as it expanded over the years. In the Victorian era, it was used as an office for receiving letters, before the National Trust acquired it in 1903. Follow an interpretive trail through the house and learn about the different functions of each room. Inspect traditionally furnished bedrooms and look for details such as an earthenware oven, which is fired up during special baking events. See how the farmhouse was transformed into a post office in the post room, where you can see examples of 19th-century telegraph and stamping equipment. Children can try on Victorian costumes, make personalized postcards and craft rugs from recycled fabric. Relax in the cottage garden, where you will find an array of blooms in bright colors throughout spring and summer. The friendly gardener will tell you all about the plants growing here.
