#### Original flags, photos, regalia and weapons are just some of the military memorabilia celebrating Gloucestershire’s soldiers at this excellent museum.

Follow in the footsteps of regional armed forces regiments at the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum. Discover over three centuries of military history via displays of archives, artifacts and interactive exhibitions. The museum celebrates the bravery and traditions of both the Gloucestershire Regiment (the Glosters) and the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars. Inaugurated in 1980, the museum has exhibits donated by former soldiers and their families.

With hundreds of enjoyable and educational artifacts, the museum is popular with visitors of all ages. Its collections are laid out in chronological order. Step into a genuine army uniform, try on helmets and feel the weight of a rifleman’s bag. Experience life during World War I in the recreation of a battlefield trench and play a military drum.

Learn about the various wars in which the regiments have participated. Among these are the 18th-century American Revolutionary War, the Napoleonic Wars and the World War II D-day Invasion. Large dioramas and video presentations help to recreate some of the wars’ major events.

Find displays of medals awarded for bravery and heroics, including the prestigious Victoria Cross and the Crimean War Medal along with ribbons captured from German soldiers and civilians. Marvel at the array of weaponry, which ranges from ammunition boxes to bayonet rifles, grenades and swords. Spot flags brought back from missions in all corners of the globe and admire the collections of exquisite silverware. 

Children visiting the museum will have fun with the hands-on games. Complete a free quiz as you make your way between the exhibition rooms.

The museum is in the former Customs House in Gloucester Docks. It’s a 15-minute walk from Gloucester’s city center. Pay to park nearby. Combine your visit with a walk around the historic docks. Admire the old merchant warehouses, browse fashion retailers and dine at waterfront cafés. The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum is open daily and has an admission fee.
