I loved my stay at Casa Gardenia. Location was very convenient to restaurants. I felt safe walking at night to go out to dinner. The hotel was multi level and had a great view of the city on the 3rd floor. Breakfast was good with bread, fruits and eggs. Staff was very nice. I would stay here again.

I can't say enough about this hotel. It was top notch from A to Z: accommodations, property, staff, amenities, food (I only had the breakfasts), location, and services. It was one of the best hotels I've stayed at anywhere.

The village in the valley. This tiny area is occupied only by homesteading farmers whose families have lived there for generations. The area is a geobiological reserve and is protected from new development. Dormant volcanoes frame it on all sides and once created the area long ago when they were active.

Here we have a very distinctive hummingbird - the Collared Inca. In most lighting they appear all black with a white chest. but if you get them out in some direct light you can make out the blue/violet cap and the green throat. Make sure you hire a birding guide for your visit to the valley. In addition to locating and identifying the birds, a guide is the only way you'll find this amazing hummingbird garden. It's hidden among some dense vegetation, with the only marker being an overgrown footpath leading from the road.
